What are the responsibilities and job description for the MEDICAL ASSISTANT TEAM LEAD position at Pcc Community Wellness Center?
Job Purpose: Ensures the provision of high quality patient care. Assists in daily problem solving and in the supervision and development of clinical support staff. Ensures Medical Providers receive sufficient support and assistance. Assists in providing leadership support for clinical support staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures the proper vitaling and appropriate documentation of routine patient intake.
- Directs patient flow. Assists other staff in need of assistance to maintain patient flow.
- Writes the daily assignment including MA assignment, room assignment, daily tasks for MAs, and lunch schedule. Assigns lunches and lunchtime coverage to clinical staff.
- Ensures that Medical Assistants perform and document basic patient history, treatments and administer medications appropriately.
- Ensures the administration of prescribed medications and treatments as directed by the provider following PCC policies and procedures.
- Maintains accurate medical records and reports to the nurse any pertinent information regarding the patients condition and care.
- Keeps providers informed of changes in assignments or patient flow that will affect working conditions.
- Performs laboratory and diagnostic tests as ordered by the provider.
- Ensures exam rooms are stocked with necessary supplies and materials. Orders medical supplies under supervision of the Clinic Administrator.
- Functions as a liaison between Walk-In Center and Emergency Department triage desk.
- Performs and records quality control checks on specific medical equipment, office diagnostic tests following established protocol as directed.
- Communicates MA and PCR/FC assignment and backup.
- Monitors rooms needed by provider, coordinates the number of rooms of providers during clinic transitions between shifts. Follows room assignment guidelines.
- Delegates work assignments to MAs and FCs as needed to even out workload and promote efficient patient flow (nurse visits, assisting with heavier provider.)
- Monitors triage nurse need for assistance, delegates work load of Medical Assistants in order to provide support and assistance to triage nurses.
- Monitors chart bins and room assignments, makes adjustments as necessary.
- Liaison with FC/PCR to coordinate which providers need patients registered and to monitor how many patients are waiting for registration, by provider.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Maintains a neat and orderly clinical work area.
- Ensures the observance of PCC policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Increases employee motivation, retention, and engagement by providing ongoing coaching to staff.
- Aids in the implementation of systems that improves patient intake, flow and patient satisfaction and provides feedback to managers, ensures the efficient processing of patients and smooth patient flow.
- Monitors internal and external customer service and ensures quality customer service to all follows PCC customer service guidelines and protocols.
- Reports to management ways in which patient care could be improved.
- Assists manager in coordinating lunch and meal breaks for WIWC staff.
- Delegates workload during downtime, ensures that front office staff is always engaged and productive.
- Functions as expert Medical Assistant.
- Ensures the provision of coverage for all clinical support areas when necessary.
- Functions as troubleshooter regarding daily clinical support staff issues.
- Completes routine medical assistant assignments, including patient intake, vitaling, obtaining patient history, and procedures.
- Provides coaching on the patient intake process and ensures compliance with regulations and clinic standards of quality patient care (i.e. HIPPA compliance, Patient Confidentiality).
- Provides feedback on performance and assists with yearly performance evaluations.
- Promotes teamwork within and outside of clinical area (i.e., establishes good relations between clinical and clerical areas). Focuses on enhancing patient flow and solving patient care issues.
- Performs related work as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience/Training:
- Graduate of a Certified Medical Assistant Program.
- Medical Assistant with a minimum 3 years of progressive experience.
- Associates Degree preferred
- Knowledge of computer systems and applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with diverse groups.
- Demonstrated Leadership Ability.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Current Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- Current and valid CPR card.
Physical Demands:
- Standing on feet for extended periods of time.
- Frequent bending, reaching and walking.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds.
- Required travel between sites
- Required shift rotation.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and write proficiently using the English language required. Bilingual in Spanish is highly desired.
- Ability to interact and speak effectively in interpersonal situations.
