Position Summary

Portland Community College (PCC) is seeking a full-time instructor of Machine Manufacturing Technology to join the team at PCC OMIC Training Center. PCC is leading the OMIC Training Center which is the training component of the OMIC initiative, and seeks to inspire, enable, and employ a skilled manufacturing workforce through industry-driven training that meets the current and future needs of young people, jobseekers, and Oregon employers.

The successful candidate will support student success in Machine Manufacturing Technology by providing high quality, culturally responsive instruction and curriculum. The teaching load for this position is anticipated to be primarily on-campus at PCC OMIC Training Center in Scappoose, Oregon. PCC serves nearly 60,000 full and part-time students across a large and diverse service area, with four campuses and multiple education centers.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

Education : Associates of Applied Science or equivalent degree in Machine Manufacturing Technology or a related field. Degree must be from an accredited institution.

Completion of a formal training program in machining such as 4-year Journeyman Apprenticeship or 2 or more-year Technical Trade School in machining.

Experience : Five years’ relevant industry experience using any four (4) of the following basic machine tools : 1) sawing machines, 2) turning machines, 3) milling machines, 4) drilling machines, 5) grinding machines, and / or 6) Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines (turning center machines and machining center machines) required. Applicants who have taught in secondary or postsecondary assignments may substitute teaching experience for recent industry experience ( years teaching for 1 year of industry experience).

Related Instruction

In addition to the requirements above, for courses in which related instruction is embedded, faculty must have :

  • For Computation in MCH 120 and 280 : College-level algebra on college transcript
  • For Computation in MCH 130 and 272 : College-level trigonometry on college transcript
  • For Communication in MCH 130, 272 and 280 : Supervisory experience (documented)

Starting Salary ExpectationsInitial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($73,911) and Step 3 (78,408) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement.

PCC offers a comprehensive benefit package designed to provide employees and their families, including domestic partners, with access to a broad range of benefit options. Includes Health, Dental, and Vision options, Group Life, Long-term Disability, Long-term Care, and Auto and Home Insurance programs.

PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS / OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS / OPSRP. A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.

  • Please note : Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.
  • Paid Leave :

    1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)

    21 hours of additional personal leave per year

    4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)

    Please note that Portland Community College is not currently able to provide visa ( H1-B Visa) sponsorship for potential employees.

    Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.

    Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard. (for more information see )
