CNC Programmer
Job Summary
Our growing aerospace manufacturing company is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer with programming knowledge of 3-axis lathes and 3/5-axis CNC mills. You will develop new CNC programs for production runs or modify existing programs for different machines. During the manufacturing process, you will perform first article reviews and quality checks with the machine operators to ensure the program is producing parts according to specifications and making manual adjustments if necessary. You will also work with the design and manufacturing engineers when developing new programs to discuss required tooling and setups per the work instructions and drawings. You will be asked to look for product modifications that will help reduce the amount of material and/or fabrication time as part of continuous improvement. Familiarity with the computer-aided design program CREO is a plus.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and/or modify CNC programs to support all machining production
- Read and technical drawings and set up the machines accordingly
- Utilize computer software to model cutting paths and program machines accordingly
- Analyze drawings to determine dimensions and to choose cutting tools, machine speeds, and feed rates
- Adjust machine cutting paths or settings to optimize production while maintaining quality
- Utilize Vericut software to verify accuracy of CNC program prior to release
- Troubleshoot issues during the manufacturing process
Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED certificate. Technical degree a plus
- Experience programming 3- and 5-axis CNC lathes and mills
- Familiarity with Mastercam, Vericut and CREO software a plus
- Previous experience working in an aerospace manufacturing preferred
- Must have strong attention to detail and problem-solving math skills
- Ability to work independently and closely follow directions is essential
- Available to work weekends and overtime as required
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline preferred and/or equivalent experience.
- Ten or more years direct experience in multi-axis programming of Aerospace machining operations and materials.
- Ability to program in appropriate programming language using either a CAD/CAM terminal and/or manually generated.
- 3D modeling sketcher, assemblies, lathe, and drafting capability in Siemens PLM (NX 8.5) or later version.
- Full multi-axis (5 ) or partial (3 1) and general CNC machining/programming experience with lathes, milling machines, and mill/turns. Grinding experience preferred.
- CG Tech Vericut experience required.
- Capable of debugging programs and working closely with shop floor and inspection personnel.
- Some tool design experience preferred.
- Proper application and knowledge of various cutting tools and holders to efficiently complete program operations.
- Must be a team player and have the ability to work closely in a shop environment.
- Seek ideas for continuous improvement; suggest and encourages innovative ideas to improve current systems and processes.
Working knowledge of Microsoft office application software to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
