Role
PDW is seeking a UAS Training Instructor to join our team, contributing to the successful field operation and training of our unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, possess strong technical and instructional skills, and excel at problem-solving. This role requires significant travel (100%). To maintain currency once trained and certified on the PDW C-100, will be required to train at least one training event per month.
This is a part-time 1099 contract / freelance position. There will be an estimated 5-10 days of work per month for this role.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance on UAS platforms and associated equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair hardware, electronics, and software issues.
- Test and calibrate UAS components to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Provide on-site and remote technical support.
- Maintain detailed records of repairs, maintenance, and operational activities.
- Collaborate with internal teams to improve workflows and technical processes.
- Develop and deliver comprehensive UAS training programs (virtual and on-site).
- Train clients on UAS operations, mission planning, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
- Create and update training materials (manuals, guides, presentations).
- Provide detailed training after-action reports to leadership.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical certifications or associate degree preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in UAS field operations, maintenance, and training.
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
- Proficiency with various UAS platforms (fixed-wing, multirotor, hybrid).
- Strong knowledge of electronics, mechanical systems, and software integration.
- Familiarity with mission planning software, GPS systems, and telemetry tools.
- Ability to use diagnostic equipment and tools.
- Excellent communication and instructional abilities.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills and ability to work independently.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in various field conditions.
ITAR Requirement
In compliance with International Traffic Arms Regulations (ITAR), candidates must be U.S. Citizens, U.S. Permanent Residents (Green Card holders) or individuals granted asylee/refugee status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
Compensation
PDW values our team, and we offer a compensation package reflective of your experience and capabilities. Compensation includes:
- Daily rate of $700 dollars while training
- Full per diem each day to include travel days
- Travel pay on day of departure and return of $150 dollars
- All expenses including airfare and lodging will be 100% reimbursed
