What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanics & Technicians position at Peabody Energy?
The PRB (NARM, Rawhide, Caballo) currently has eight openings for the position of DDS Regional Crew to support Open Cut Maintenance in the Powder River Basin. NARM is a surface coal mine located in Wright, Wyoming, with approximately 465 million tons of coal reserves.
This crew will utilize expertise from Peabody locations to perform heavy maintenance on Shovels and Draglines during planned outages.
Peabody mines prioritize a safety-first culture, aiming for zero recordable MSHA injuries/incidents.
Duties include:
- Supporting and championing Peabody's Mission and Values.
- Adhering to Safety as a Way of Life Management System.
- Conducting safety observations and completing safety interactions monthly.
- Other duties assigned by the company.
The Lifestyle
This position may require working weekends, holidays, or alternative shifts as needed.
Will be outside during large outages, scheduled at all locations by Team Lead, responsible for traveling to mine sites with necessary tooling.

About You
- Minimum three years of mining-related or industrial experience working on large rope shovels and draglines.
- Work safely and promote safe behavior in others.
- Able to obtain pit driving licenses at all locations.
- Experience with shovel repairs, job scopes, and planning.
- Meet deadlines.
- Good communication with mine personnel, verbal and written skills.
- Experience with large outages.
- Required to work at all Peabody mines in the basin as needed.
- Good hazard recognition.
- Familiarity with isolation procedures for all equipment on all sites.
- Confined space certification.
- Lifting and rigging training.
- Pass a 1-inch weld test or equivalent certification.
- Machining experience a plus.
- Able to solve problems arising in pit conditions.
- Able to identify defects in equipment.
- Knowledge of mine production.
- Able to listen and follow direction, handle on-board computer systems.
- Able to operate equipment in various weather conditions and times of day.
- Able to train others in equipment operation.
Physical Requirements - Surface
- Ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift.
- Ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
- Ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb stairs/steps, and climb on/off equipment and ladders.
- Ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing, and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions and have rapid reflex movements.
- Ability to lift/raise 10-50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during work shifts.
- Ability to work in extreme conditions, including changing weather, dust, mud, varying noise levels, and confined spaces.
- Must be able to work various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
