About the role :
We are currently seeking a Surface Miner / Wash Plant Operator to join our Surface Team at our Twentymile Mine location.
Reporting to the Surface Foreman. The scope of your role will be to Perform all necessary work on the surface including operating the washplant, surface equipment, loading of trucks and trains.
Twentymile mine is an underground coal mine located in Colorado’s scenic Yampa Valley about 20 miles outside Steamboat Springs, a ski resort and vacation destination.
The surrounding area has towns both large and small including Oak Creek, Craig, Hayden, and Steamboat Springs. Hunting and fishing are very popular in this area.
Shotgun and archery hunting is allowed on Peabody property for employees with proper authorization.
Peabody Twentymile has a safety-first culture and has been recognized two years in a row by the National Mining Association as the safest underground coal mine in the United Sates.
The award recognizes coal and mineral mining operations with the lowest MSHA reportable injury rate. In 2023, Twentymile completed three years without a single reportable injury.
The Hourly Range for this position is between $37.17 and $39.88 depending on experience.
Duties will include :
- Operation of the Wash Plant control room and buildings
- Operation of all surface equipment such as front-end loader, dozer, bobcat, tipple equipment, loadout facility, etc.
- Perform comprehensive equipment walk-arounds
- Supply all equipment with appropriate lubrication and fluid levels consistent with established procedures and checklists.

- Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts Mining
- Experience Preferred
- Certifications preferred (Mine foreman, EMT, Electrical)
Physical requirements :
- Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
- Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
- Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk / climb up and down stairs / steps and climb on / off equipment and ladders
- Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
