Program Overview
The mission of Peace Child Care is to provide a Christ-Centered, nurturing environment that
facilitates the learning and development of each individual child. Peace Child Care seeks to
nurture the spiritual, social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of the whole child.
Primary Purpose of the Position
To plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum and environment that is in alignment with Peace Child Care’s mission and philosophy; provide a safe, responsive, and respectful environment by actively engaging in the daily interests and supports of the children; form and maintain professional relationships with parents and families; and observe and document development in all domains. Teachers are also responsible for the supervision and direction of Assistant Teachers and Volunteers. Teachers will maintain all certifications and training as required and ensure compliance with all rules and regulations of the program.
Essential Functions:
- Plan, schedule and implement the daily program of appropriate developmental experiences for a classroom group of children.
- Maintain a physical environment conducive to children’s growth and development and arrange to promote optimal program functioning.
- Provide proper care and protection for children at Peace Child Care.
- Consider and provide for the needs of the individual in relationship to their cultural and socioeconomic background, emotional or physical handicaps and individual style and pace of learning.
- Help children learn to adapt to and regulate within real-life situations; to develop appropriate self-help skills such as eating, dressing, napping and personal hygiene.
- Work with and refer to the Director/Administrator for children with unmet special needs, as well as families with problems that affect the child in the center.
- Make daily observations of the health of children, immediately reporting conditions to the director which require attention.
- Maintain progress records on the emotional, physical, social and intellectual development of assigned children.
- Work with the director to support challenging needs.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, conferences, workshops and other career development and professional activities.
- Complete continuing education hours per State requirements each year.
- Assure that equipment and materials are accessible, appropriate and in good condition.
- Perform classroom related and other maintenance duties as requested.
- Perform daily cleaning responsibilities.
- Assist with public relations and events and other duties as assigned.
- Maintain a pleasant, comfortable atmosphere for staff and children.
Required Skills and Experience:
-Experience working with children
-Understanding of Developmentally Appropriate Practice and Child Development
-Willingness to Obtain a WI Registry Portfolio (Level 7 or higher)
-Able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, lift a minimum of 40 pounds, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children indoors and outdoors
-Able to use a computer with basic proficiency
-CPR/First Aid and Abusive Head Trauma Certification (or willing to obtain)
-Read, write, understand, and speak English to communicate with children and their families in English
-Must meet state specific guidelines for the role
-Active Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential (or willing to obtain)
Reports to: Child Care Director
Location: Peace Lutheran Church, 2084 County Road N, Baldwin, WI
Supervisory Responsibility: supervision and direction of Assistant Teachers
Physical Demands: frequent standing, stooping, bending kneeling, Pushing, and pulling; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25 – 40 per week
