What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Support Assistant (part-time) position at PEACE, Inc.?
SCHEDULE: 20 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school degree or equivalent, and either two years experience working with families with special needs or a two-year degree in human services or in a closely related field.
- A minimum of 6 months of experience in social work or a related field, including experience working with families and children at risk.
- Knowledge of resources available in Syracuse and Onondaga County to assist families in crisis.
- May be required to work flexible hours including evening and weekends.
- A current New York State driver license with zero points within the last 18 months.
- Solid speaking and writing skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide direct assistance for assigned school-aged children.
2. Assist children to achieve Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals in areas of education, recreation, and social integration.
3. Plan and implement recreational activities and social outings.
4. Assist in directing after-school, summer, and other family resource center activities.
5. Serve as a chaperone for trips and outings.
6. Assist in transporting children when necessary.
7. In coordination with the Family Support Specialist, create new programs for clients.
8. In coordination with the Center Coordinator, establish community partnerships.
9. Refer assigned families to other agency departments or programs.
10. Participate in special events and fundraisers for the center.
11. Keep written records/documentation of activities and outcomes for assigned children.
12. Enter client information into database, keep family service records and other files up to date, and complete all required reports in a timely manner.
