Personal Care Worker
Stillwater, Minnesota Full-time or Part-time
A Personal Care Worker provides specified defined, non-medical care services under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and / or Program Manager. A Personal Care Worker is a non-licensed health care employee who provides personal care and homemaking services in a home care setting to clients who are unable to perform these activities independently. A Personal Care Worker conforms to all agency policies and procedures including providing care, compliance with the agency Bill of Rights, observing confidentiality, and complaint / grievance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Personal Care Duties :
- Bathing : Bathroom and bathing assistance – showering, bathtub assistance, bed-bath, or hair washing.
- Grooming including dressing, hair care, and oral hygiene i.e. teeth, mouth, denture, hair care.
- Dressing : Total or partial assistance with dressing / undressing.
- Remind clients to take medications as needed at appropriate times.
- Transfers : Assist client bed to wheelchair and / or reverse in / out of shower or bathtub, use of a mechanical lift or transfer board may be necessary. Positioning may also necessitate lifting.
- Assistance with mobility and ambulation including use of cane, walker, or crutches.
- Exercise : Assist client with exercise equipment and / or range of motion exercises.
- Laundering : Assistance with laundry as needed i.e. bedding, personal clothing.
- Skincare.
- Care of eyeglasses and hearing aids.
- Environment : Maintain a safe, clean and healthy environment through light housekeeping including changing bed linens, cleaning client’s quarters; vacuuming, cleaning kitchen and bathrooms during personal care service activities.
- Meal Preparation : Prepare and serves food for clients following special prescribed diets, and purchasing.
- Doctor visits : Accompany to hospital, clinic, and therapy visits.
- Services- prior authorizations.
- Maintain records of service performed and of the apparent condition of client all the while keeping in close communication with supervising Registered Nurse and Program Manager(s).
- Properly and accurately document the shift in daily log notes with a legible signature.
- Other tasks as listed on the individual Care Plan.
- Adhere to infection control and safety procedures that are in accordance with agency policies.
- Reporting changes in client’s condition to agency RN.
- Delegated tasks by RN.
