What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ranch Hand/Trainer position at Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue?
Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue, the world's largest donkey rescue, is a non-profit company, in the business of rescuing, rehabbing and adopting out donkeys from around the country. We are looking to add a dependable ranch hand /trainer to our crew in Concord, VA. You will be encountering and interacting with equine daily. No experience is necessary.
This job requires working outdoors in all conditions. We do offer on the job training.
Qualifications:
- You will be responsible for feeding and cleaning
- General ranch maintenance
- Will assist with a variety of routine donkey care tasks such as:
- Worming
- Vaccinating
- Hoof trimming
- Assisting with vets and farriers
- You will be required to lift 65 pounds daily and must be physically able to handle the donkeys.
- We need a team player who is flexible and willing to make a hand at any task given.
- Some weekend work will be required.
- Tractor and skid steer experience is a plus.
- As a trainer, you will be responsible for helping the donkeys achieve adoptable status; all adoptable donkeys must be friendly. You will learn to halter and walk donkeys on a lead rope. Donkeys must stand tied and left all four feet for a farrier before they are considered adoptable
- Some weekend work is required
- You must pass a drug test.
Although large animal exposure is a plus, the right person for this position will love animals, display compassion, have a team work attitude and must have patience.
