Position Overview

Hyatt Centric Downtown Portland is looking for a dynamic Assistant General Manager (AGM) with a strong Food & Beverage (F&B) background to lead our team, elevate guest experiences, and drive operational excellence. This role works closely with the General Manager to oversee hotel operations, with a primary focus on restaurant and banquet operations, ensuring exceptional service, profitability, and team engagement. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader committed to delivering outstanding guest experiences, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and optimizing financial performance by effectively managing expenses while maximizing service levels.

As an AGM at Hyatt Centric, you will play a vital role in maintaining our brand promise—offering savvy travelers an authentic, locally inspired experience in the heart of Portland. You’ll be hands-on, driving operational excellence, fostering a culture of care, and inspiring your team to create unforgettable moments for our guests.

Key Responsibilities

Food & Beverage Leadership

  • Oversee daily operations of the hotel’s restaurant, bar, and banquet/event spaces, ensuring exceptional guest experiences that align with the Hyatt Centric brand.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef and F&B team to optimize menus, service flow, and profitability.
  • Implement service standards, training programs, and SOPs to enhance efficiency, consistency, and guest satisfaction in all F&B outlets.
  • Monitor and manage labor costs, inventory, and revenue goals while driving upselling strategies and menu innovation.
  • Support and execute banquet events and group functions, ensuring seamless coordination between Sales, Banquets, and culinary teams.

Hotel Operations & Leadership

  • Partner with the General Manager to oversee day-to-day hotel operations, with a strong presence in Front Office, Guest Services, and Housekeeping when needed.
  • Lead and mentor department heads and associates, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) and support guest recovery efforts, ensuring service excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with Hyatt brand standards, local health regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Analyze financial performance, labor management, and operational KPIs to drive efficiencies and maximize profitability.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of hotel leadership experience with a strong background in Food & Beverage operations (restaurant, bar, banquets).
  • Experience in a boutique, lifestyle, or upscale hotel brand preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive service excellence, and manage operations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in P&L analysis, labor cost control, and revenue management.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and inspire teams to achieve high performance.
  • Hands-on, guest-focused leadership style with a passion for hospitality.
  • Familiarity with Infrasys and ProfitSword are a plus.
