The Director of Hotel Payroll is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of payroll operations to ensure accurate and timely processing. This role involves supervising and developing a team of payroll professionals, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and implementing best practices for payroll processes. This role reports to the VP, Total Rewards.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll for all hotel employees.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of three payroll professionals, ensuring they are well-trained, motivated, and working efficiently.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, wage and hour regulations, and other legal payroll requirements. Prepare and submit accurate payroll reports.
  • Partner with the HR team and other departments to resolve payroll discrepancies, address employee inquiries, and align with organizational goals.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement initiatives to enhance efficiency.
  • Conduct regular audits of payroll data to ensure accuracy and resolve any discrepancies or issues.
  • Assist in developing and enforcing payroll policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance across the organization.
  • Act as a key point of contact for payroll-related practices, addressing questions and concerns.
  • Review, implement, and maintain internal controls, ensuring compliance and adapting high-level requirements into functional processes to create and distribute payroll reports as needed.
  • Collaborate with external auditors to ensure compliance and provide necessary support.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • 7-10 years of experience in payroll management, with multi-state and multi-entity payroll expertise required.
  • Proven experience processing payroll for large, multi-state organizations.
  • Proficiency in UKG highly preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of payroll tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel with strong analytical capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills paired with effective leadership abilities.
