About the Job :
Peak Energy is looking for a Government Affairs Intern to support their work with federal and state governments on energy policy, tax, and trade issues. The intern supports the ongoing work of Peak Energy's government affairs team to shape the future of energy policy to support domestic battery manufacturing, advance American energy security, and build America's first fully domestic battery supply chain. The intern will conduct policy research and assessments, monitor legislative and regulatory policymaking processes, develop internal briefing materials for company executives, and support public policy advocacy efforts. Working with the Senior Director of Government Affairs and Peak Energy's external partners, the intern will support policy work at both the federal and state level and have the opportunity to develop a portfolio that supports the business and deepens their experience in issue areas of their interest.
The ideal candidate will be based in Washington, D.C. to allow for regular, direct interaction with the government affairs team and participation in in-person meetings. Peak Energy's DC-based team primarily works from home or from co-working spaces and the company has offices in the Bay Area and Denver Metro area. Candidates in either of Peak's other office regions or remote candidates are also encouraged to apply. Part time, limited duration (20 hours / week)
This is an entry level internship opportunity. Prior working experience is not a requirement for this position and talented candidates with demonstrated interest in the field are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities :
- Policy Tracking : Track and evaluate federal, state, and local policies affecting Peak Energy's business and the energy storage industry, broadly. This may include changes to federal tax programs such as the Inflation Reduction Act, state renewable energy goals, and energy storage planning conducted at the regional level.
- Briefing Materials Development : Develop memos, presentations, and other information to support company decision making and strategy impacted by government agencies. Likewise, develop comment letters, fact sheets, and other materials to support Peak Energy's external engagements with federal and state agencies.
- Grant support : Identify and review grant and other funding opportunities to advance the installation of Peak's energy storage products, research and development, and other elements of the business.
- Research : Conduct research on industry trends, supply chain developments, and policy practices in other markets that can inform advocacy, support policy development, and guide the business strategy.
