- Respond to general inquiries from the public and Division staff regarding the complaint process, rights and responsibilities of parties, and specific complaints under the Human Rights Law.
- Guide complainants through the completion of complaint forms and offer detailed assistance on the complaint process. Ensure accurate and timely data entry into case management systems within 3 business days.
- Support the resolution of complaints by facilitating communication between parties. Adhere to procedural guidelines for conciliation and document all conciliation efforts in case management systems within 2 business days.
- Assist in organizing case documents, conduct interviews with parties and witnesses, and track case events. Prepare clear, concise reports and recommendations based on findings.
- Review complaints to identify jurisdictional issues and deficiencies. Take necessary steps for follow-up actions, dismissals, or corrective measures as needed.
- Apply knowledge of Human Rights Law and other anti-discrimination laws in investigations, mediations, and resolution efforts. Participate in training on mediation and negotiation best practices.
- Ensure timely and accurate entry of case data into case management systems in compliance with Division policies and formats.
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- Proven paralegal experience with expertise in human rights and anti-discrimination law.
- In-depth knowledge of Human Rights Law, other anti-discrimination laws, and the formal complaint process.
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, impartiality, and fairness when interacting with all parties.
- Proficiency with case management systems and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as you’ll be interacting with both the public and Division staff regularly.
- Hourly pay rate: $31.00/hour.
- Length of engagement: The contract term is 1 year with the potential for extension.
- Start date: The successful candidate will need to start on February 3, 2025.
