SUMMARY : Directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering project within area of assigned responsibility and advises the corrective and preventive maintenance of equipment, mill and property by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
Essential Job Duties
- Priority approach to all safety and health considerations required by Company policy and federal and state codes and regulations and will, in collaboration with the Vice President of Purchasing, insist that any outside service units give the same priority. Enforces the observation of high standards of safety and good housekeeping in the performance of Engineering activities to prevent financial losses and human suffering caused by accidents and injuries.
- Deep experience with Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI, aka Lean Mfg Visual Daily Management, aka Tier 1-4 Boards); Project Management Office (PMO, aka more complicated Productivity & Equipment Reliability Improvement projects); CapEx Project generation and execution for both short-term tactical and also strategic projects; Predictive & Preventive Maintenace programs, including CMMS implementations and Daily/Weekly Planning standard work
- Ability to Hire, onboard, and Train to fill current open roles and/or upgrade existing personnel.
- Directs and coordinates all departmental activities related to the planning, justification and successful completion of all capital expenditures for all engineering projects. Controls expenditures within limitations for project budget.
- Effectively coordinates, administers and supervises all activities of engineering projects in order to provide timely, economical and high quality completion of the project in accordance with the overall plan.
- Provides electrical and mechanical trouble shooting and engineering advice and consultation to all operations and maintenance activities.
- Provides for the development of any plans or information essential to engineering projects (i.e., preliminary layout sketches, detailed electrical and mechanical calculations, drawings and schematics, capital appropriation justifications).
- Plans and formulates engineering programs including the assignment of project personnel to specific phases or aspects of projects in accordance with project requirements.
- Tracks and monitors each project's progression to determine compliance with engineering principles, company standards and related specifications, quickly intervening to resolve any problem which would prohibit the timely and successful completion of the project. Prepares interim and completion project reports.
- Oversees installation to ensure machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
- Confers with appropriate personnel to implement operating procedures and resolve system malfunctions.
- Determines the need for specialized or technical services from outside sources in the event of breakdowns, obtains approval and contacts equipment manufacturers when required.
- Analyzes causes of accidents and injuries within area of responsibility and implements corrective actions.
- Takes all necessary measures to protect company property and equipment in the event of an emergency situation and sees that all Engineering personnel are thoroughly prepared to effectively carry out emergency actions and programs if needed.
- Requires that employees meet anticipated work levels in order to ensure lowest possible labor cost and the effective and timely completion of jobs. Requires that employees practice good housekeeping.
- Performs activities of workers supervised as needed.

- BS Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from ABET/EAC accredited University.
- At least three years experience in a manager or supervisory capacity.
- Microsoft experience (Word and Excel).
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; sit; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Minimal travel requirements.
