About the Role Architecture & Facilities Engineering (A&FE) is seeking a Staff Architect to support the development and sustainment of assets and projects throughout the Disneyland Resort. This role involves providing technical expertise, problem-solving, and quality assurance / quality control (QA / QC) across a variety of project types, including :
- Shops
- Attractions
- Hotels
- Entertainment venues
- Maintenance facilities
- Offices
- Built facilities and area development
Projects range from preliminary research and full facility assessments to minor renovations and new facilities, as well as immediate response efforts. The Staff Architect will collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines and multiple internal Disney project teams.
Key Responsibilities As a Staff Architect in A&FE , you will act as an Architectural Owner's Representative for the Disneyland Resort, managing projects from concept through construction. While drawings are seldom produced in-house, most construction drawings are created by external architects and engineers hired for their services. Your role will be to oversee and coordinate design management, ensuring compliance with Disney standards, discipline coordination, and code adherence.
Architectural Owner's Representative Responsibilities
Review project concepts with internal stakeholders and partnersDetermine required team members to execute projects effectivelyDevelop project scopes of work and create Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for external architects, engineers, and consultantsCoordinate with Facility Assessment Management (FAM) partners to review scope, schedules, and budgetsProvide internal cost estimates and review budgets throughout project timelinesManage the design and development of project construction drawings and specifications with internal and external resourcesOversee design schedules, meeting agendas, and meeting participants to ensure resultsLead design reviews and meetings throughout the design processReview drawings and specifications at each design milestone for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and statutesEnsure project design intent aligns with infrastructure, area development, grading / drainage, area lighting, graphics, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering, show set, ride engineering, etc.Verify scope completeness based on project requirements, focusing on constructability, efficiency, and long-term maintainabilityCommunicate project developments with stakeholders throughout design and constructionPartner with internal teams to develop, maintain, and enforce Disney design guidelines, standards, master specifications, and detailsProvide guidance and decision matrices to support executive decisionsUtilize technical expertise and lessons learned in project reviewsLiaison with city officials and external agencies to ensure compliance with external requirementsCoordinate responses to city plan check comments, constructability issues, RFIs, and submittalsConduct punch walks and compile all project documentation for closeoutArchitectural Responsibilities
Develop varied facility design projects at all stages, from concept, feasibility, or schematic design through construction documentation, in alignment with Disney quality standardsCollaborate with internal stakeholders and partners to develop project concepts and scopes of workResolve design issues creatively and thoroughly, ensuring coordination across disciplinesServe as Architect of Record (AOR) and manage the execution of project construction drawings and specificationsCreate drawings and specifications that comply with applicable codes, standards, and statutesOversee all disciplines within each project to ensure full integrationUtilize technical expertise and lessons learned when creating designsRespond to city plan check comments, RFIs, and submittalsProvide punch walk lists to General Contractors and FAM partnersPrepare and compile all project documentation for closeoutWork with stakeholders to provide architectural resources, both technical and aesthetic, to support project design, planning, and code complianceWhat We Look For
Professional design experience across a wide range of project and construction typesKnowledge of all phases of design and construction practices and standardsConstruction administration experience, including site visits and review of RFIs and submittalsExpertise in preparing architectural contract drawings and specificationsExperience creating code analysis summaries, including life safety plansAbility to collaborate effectively within a team environmentProficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office SuiteExtensive knowledge of California Building Code, health codes, CalOSHA, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)Experience developing custom details for unique facility design conditionsStrong leadership, team-building, and mentoring skillsExceptional problem-solving, analytical, and time management skillsStrong written, verbal, and graphical communication skills for presenting complex analyses to executive managementAbility to respond effectively to dynamic situations and personalitiesCapability to work independently while seeking guidance and communicating as appropriateAbility to direct and motivate work efforts while handling stressful situationsAbility to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlinesRequired Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an NAAB-accredited institutionMinimum of 13 years of professional experience in architectureArchitectural License in the State of CaliforniaPreferred Qualifications
