We are looking for a person to join our mental health and substance use disorder interdisciplinary treatment team. The schedule for this role hasn't been determined and we'd be happy to discuss this with you during an interview.

GENERAL PURPOSE: The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) role is dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to the patients of Peaks Recovery Centers (PRC) in a structured and safe environment. Responsibilities include facilitating the on-site patient admissions process, addressing patient needs with professionalism and empathy, monitoring and documenting patient behavior, and maintaining accurate patient medical records. BHTs actively participate in crisis intervention, safety checks, and escorting patients throughout the facility to ensure smooth daily operations. They serve as positive role models, promote ethical standards, and foster an atmosphere of encouragement and support. BHTs collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide high-quality care aligned with organizational standards and patient needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient Support:

  • Provide exceptional hospitality to all patients by addressing their needs within scope of practice, offering a welcoming and supportive environment, conducting facility tours, and accompanying patients to appointments.
  • Facilitate the on-site patient admissions process by obtaining consents, conducting patient property searches - completing corresponding documentation, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Orient patients to the facility by reviewing the handbook, schedules, and expectations to ensure a smooth integration into the program.
  • Socialize with patients, with appropriate professional boundaries, by providing emotional support creating a positive and nurturing treatment environment.
  • Lead and engage patients in scheduled activities, including recreational games, group exercises, and wellness programs, to encourage participation and foster camaraderie.
  • Participate in meals and informal interactions with patients to build rapport, monitor well-being, and create a supportive atmosphere.
  • Encourage patients to participate in structured activities while providing guidance and motivation as needed.

Medical Assistance:

  • Assist nurses during patient intakes and with basic medical tasks, which includes, but is not limited to - searches, examinations, and treatments.
  • Collect urine samples for analysis according to the Urine Analysis Policy & Procedure.
  • Ensure patients attend all scheduled medical and therapy appointments, both on-site and off-site.
  • Support nurses with medication administration, as clinically appropriate and within the scope of training - Qualified Medication Administration Professional (QMAP) certification required for medication administration duties.
  • Assist in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) treatments if certified, ensuring proper setup, client preparation, and documentation in accordance with medical protocols.
  • Document all patient interactions and observations accurately to maintain compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.

Facility Operations:

  • Conduct patient safety checks and rounds throughout the facility in compliance with protocols.
  • Escort patients within the facility and to outside appointments or outings, ensuring their safety and adherence to schedules.
  • Conduct regular room searches to ensure safety and compliance with program rules.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions and observations in alignment with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in facility upkeep when needed, including taking out garbage, shoveling sidewalks, and helping to clean and organize patient living spaces or common areas.

Crisis Intervention:

  • Engage in crisis intervention by delivering patient support within the scope of practice.
  • Notify appropriate staff and coordinate with the interdisciplinary team to address emergencies or escalate concerns.

Team Collaboration:

  • Attend staff meetings, in-service training, and supervision sessions as requested.
  • Serve as a positive role model, promoting ethical behavior and professionalism among clients and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with medical and clinical staff to identify and address patient needs.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the residence is adequately stocked with necessary supplies and report maintenance issues promptly.
  • Conduct bed checks during overnight shifts and document observations per established safety standards.
  • Provide transportation for patients using company vehicles, including 12- to 15-passenger vans

Center-Wide Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for keeping patient information confidential by adhering to Colorado law and policies and procedures of PRC.
  • All documentation within the patients EMR is completed in a timely manner and is accurate
  • Responsible for compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws; professional practice acts and ethical guidelines; policies and procedures of PRC; and contractual guidelines.
  • Responsible for supporting the PRC Vision, Mission, Values and Beliefs by practicing and modeling a culture of wellness within a One Team Mindset and aligning with and exhibiting Core Values daily.
  • Completes all administrative paperwork as requested/required.
  • Completes required competency training and additional training as required.
  • Reviews and acknowledges PRC policies and procedures as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; 2 years of college education preferred.
  • Experience in mental health, substance abuse, or a related field preferred.
  • Peer Recovery Support Certification, Peer & Family Support Specialist, or NAMI Certification (preferred but not required).
  • CPR/First Aid certification (required or must be obtained within 30 days).
  • Current Colorado Driver License is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with patients.
  • Exceptional observational and documentation skills to identify and communicate patient needs effectively.
  • Ability to work constructively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Professional demeanor and adherence to ethical boundaries with patients and staff.
  • Ability to safely drive company vehicles, 12 seat to 15 seat passenger van.
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
  • Ability to enter data in the PRC electronic medical record (EMR) keeping system.

  • Frequent walking, standing, and physical activity throughout the scheduled shift, including movement within and between multiple facilities at the primary care site.
  • Ability to run/jog in emergency situations.
  • Ability to perform CPR chest compressions.
  • Ability to lift or assist patients with physical care tasks as needed.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
