Vice President of Engineering
Your responsibilities
- Alongside the CEO, define the company's engineering vision, strategy and roadmap, aligning with overall business and impact objectives
- Lead, mentor and inspire a diverse team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement
- Oversee the design and development of Hertha's commercial-scale steelmaking furnace
- Lead the design, build-out, commissioning and operation of Hertha's pilot tests
- Responsible for maintaining or improving the speed of technology scale-up
- Create and manage the engineering budget, ensuring we optimize resources and investments to achieve our goals.
- Own inter team collaboration, ensure seamless integration between Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Embedded, Material, and Chemical Engineering.
- Maintain a hands-on engineering and leadership approach to provide technical guidance, reviews, and mentorship to the team.
- Maintain documentation of technical projects to track history and progress
- Work with industry-leading contracting firms to execute specific technical projects
- Collaborate with and manage Hertha's technical consultants to accelerate process development
- Assist growing Hertha's technical team with additional key technical hires, including subordinates and peers, and train younger engineers
- Bring a high level of safety consciousness to all work activities
- Your experience
- Bachelor's engineering degree (Metallurgy, Business, Chemical, Materials or Mechanical). Graduate degree in a relevant technical area is preferred
- Experience in successfully scaling complex technologies or chemical processes
- Proven track record of leadership and innovation in technology companies, preferably in a startup environment
- Demonstrated success in
- Strong strategic thinking and the ability to translate technical strategies into actionable plans
- Entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving startup environment
- Strong team player with demonstrated interpersonal skills. Good communicator.
