Your Impact
As a Construction Inspector, you will play a vital role in ensuring that fiber-optic and telecommunications construction projects adhere to customer standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices. You will oversee, inspect, and monitor fieldwork, ensuring that contractors follow NESC, jurisdictional guidelines, and customer specifications. Your expertise in fiber-optic construction will help maintain the integrity and quality of network infrastructure while ensuring safety and compliance in all project phases.
Core Responsibilties
- Construction Oversight & Inspection
- Conduct daily inspections of contractor work, including fiber optic cable, conduit, riser guards, and other infrastructure.
- Inspect and review splice closures and placements, ensuring compliance with customer standards.
- Monitor both aerial and underground construction, verifying adherence to Inspector Checklists and Customer Construction Standards.
- Identify and document non-compliant work (gigs) and coordinate correction processes with contractors.
- Measure and collect data for HOA and Midspan clearances.
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all construction meets NESC, regulatory guidelines, and customer specifications.
- Report and address unsafe work practices to maintain a safe work environment.
- Ensure contractors follow OSHA, state, and local safety standards.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Consult with customers regarding changes, issues, and project updates.
- Perform digital redline markups and utilize iPads for daily reporting and project tracking.
- Work closely with construction teams and project managers to ensure smooth execution of infrastructure projects.
- Industry Expertise
- 3 years of experience in underground/aerial fiber-optic/telecom construction.
- Knowledge of OSP (Outside Plant) activities, including fiber cable design, pole line construction, conduit system design, and make-ready processes.
- Experience identifying different types of utilities, potential conflicts, and violations based on regulatory standards (RUS, NESC, GO95, NEC, etc.).
- Technical & Software Proficiency
- Ability to read and interpret engineered design construction prints and identify conflicts in OSP facilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with QGIS and Site Tracker (Salesforce) is a plus.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new technical systems and tools.
- Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to resolve problems independently using standard practices and defined policies.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds frequently.
- Willingness to work outdoors 95% of the time, in various weather conditions (heat, snow, rain, wind).
- Ability to walk up to 3 miles per day on varied terrain (gravel, pavement, grass, etc.).
- Frequent travel required (up to 100%), with potential overnight stays of up to two weeks at a time.
- Ability to work safely with or without supervision and respond to travel requests on short notice.
