Position Summary

Pearce is seeking a highly skilled OSP Design Engineer II to perform detailed outside plant facility engineering tasks. The ideal candidate is a skilled and experienced OSP Engineer capable of performing a wide range of outside plant engineering tasks. The role requires a strong understanding of copper and fiber technology, proficiency in OSP design, and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders and government entities.

DUTIES And RESPONSIBILITIES

• OSP Engineering Tasks: Perform and manage all aspects of outside plant engineering, including aerial, buried, and underground new build designs for copper and fiber technology.
• Technical Proficiency: Utilize advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and FTR systems such as FROGS, Varasset, SiteTracker, and DPI/QPort.
• Design and Planning: Develop detailed OSP designs, including Ethernet, DSLAM deployments, and cable right-sizing, while understanding copper cable counts (binders, groups, super groups) and fiber assignments (12-fiber increments).
• Communication and Collaboration:
• Participate in discussions with government entities (cities, townships, counties, DOTs) on utility and permitting requirements.
• Collaborate with operations, central office, and construction departments to align OSP project designs with organizational needs.
• Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills for effective interaction with customers and stakeholders.
• Project Management: Handle complex projects, establish milestone dates, draft and order materials, and ensure timely completion of tasks.
• Permitting and Negotiations: Manage permitting requirements and engage in private right-of-way (ROW) negotiations.
• Problem-Solving and Initiative: Proactively seek out information and solutions to questions or challenges encountered during project execution.
  
  

QUALIFICATIONS And REQUIREMENTS

• Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, with advanced capabilities in OSP engineering tasks.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Expertise in FTR systems, including FROGS, Varasset, SiteTracker, DPI/QPort.
• OSP Design Expertise: Accomplished in aerial, buried, and underground new build designs.
• Comprehensive understanding of copper (binders, groups) and fiber assignments (12-fiber increments).
• Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills; able to interact effectively with government entities, utility providers, and partner departments.
• Project Management: Can manage complex OSPE tasks, such as Ethernet designs, road moves, DSLAM deployments, and cable right-sizing.
• Proficient in drafting, ordering material, and managing project milestone dates.
• Permitting and Negotiation: Knowledge of permitting requirements and private ROW negotiations.
• Experience working with cities, townships, counties, and DOTs on utility discussions.
• Collaboration: Ability to work with operations, central office, and construction departments to ensure project success.
• Comprehensive OSPE Design: Proven ability to manage and complete all aspects of OSP engineering, including customer-facing tasks and inter-departmental collaboration.
  
  

This position is remote; the candidate lives near Bloomington, Champaign, Decatur, Effingham, Mt Vernon.

Pay Range - $38.00-$40.00 hourly/DOE
