As an OSP Design Engineer, you will be pivotal in shaping and executing our telecommunications projects. Your role will ensure the effective design, planning, and implementation of outside plant (OSP) engineering tasks that directly support our network infrastructure. By collaborating with government agencies and internal departments, you’ll help streamline processes, drive innovation, and deliver exceptional results that meet both client and company goals.

Pay Range - $38.00-$40.00 hourly/DOE

As an OSP Design Engineer, you will be pivotal in shaping and executing our telecommunications projects. Your role will ensure the effective design, planning, and implementation of outside plant (OSP) engineering tasks that directly support our network infrastructure. By collaborating with government agencies and internal departments, you’ll help streamline processes, drive innovation, and deliver exceptional results that meet both client and company goals.
Core Responsibilities:
- Execute and manage comprehensive OSP tasks including aerial, buried, and underground new build designs for both copper and fiber technologies.
- Leverage your skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and key FTR systems such as FROGS, Varasset, SiteTracker, and DPI/QPort to support project execution.
- Develop detailed OSP designs covering Ethernet deployments, DSLAM setups, and cable right-sizing.
- Ensure precise understanding and calculation of copper cable counts (binders, groups, super groups) and fiber assignments (12-fiber increments).
- Engage in utility discussions with government entities (cities, townships, counties, DOTs) and partner closely with Operations, Central Office, and Construction teams to align project requirements.
- Project Management: Oversee complex projects including Ethernet designs, road moves, and DSLAM deployments.
- Manage drafting, material identification and ordering, permitting requirements, and private ROW negotiations.
- Establish and maintain project milestone dates to ensure timely delivery.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- Proven telecom background with hands-on experience in OSP design (aerial, buried, and underground new builds).
- Strong technical understanding of copper and fiber technologies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and FTR systems (FROGS, Varasset, SiteTracker, DPI/QPort).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with government agencies and internal stakeholders.
- A proactive, self-motivated professional who thrives on meeting deadlines and driving results.
- Field Work: Willingness to drive to site visits or customer locations as needed.
