What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Lab Technician position at Pearl Diagnostic Lab?
Testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, testing and for reporting test results in accordance with the laboratory’s established policies and procedures. Knowledgeable of the principles upon which lab tests are based and can recognize appropriate questionable and critical results. Possess the ability to organize workload for maximum efficiency, accuracy and ensures that test reports are accurate and reliable.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Perform only those moderate and high complexity tests that are authorized for the individual by the Laboratory Director.
2. Follow the lab’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
3. Ensure that proficiency testing (PT) samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens and maintain PT record as appropriate.
4. Adhere to the lab’s quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) policies and procedures. Follow laboratory QC policies regarding out-of-control corrective actions. Document all QC activities.
5. Document all instrument and procedural calibrations, QC, and maintenance performed.
6. Follow the lab’s policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the lab’s established acceptable levels of performance. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the lab’s established performance specifications.
7. Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and take appropriate action to correct the problems and notify supervisory personnel
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
Working Environment
- Must be exposed to noise, dirt, dust, fumes, loud noises and blood borne pathogens.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
- Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot under pressure.
- Emergent situations could extend working hours or require infrequent week-end work.
