Job Summary: The Planner I position is an entry-level role responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of planning projects and programs. This position involves conducting research, preparing reports, and providing support for various planning activities within the county. The Planner I will work under the supervision of the County Administrator and will have opportunities for professional growth and development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and update of comprehensive plans, zoning ordinances, and other planning documents.
- Conduct research and analysis on land use, zoning, transportation, environmental, and demographic data.
- Prepare maps, charts, and other visual aids to support planning projects.
- Review development proposals and site plans for compliance with county regulations and policies.
- Participate in public meetings, workshops, and hearings to present planning information and gather community input.
- Provide technical assistance and information to the public, developers, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other county departments and external agencies on planning-related matters.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of planning activities and decisions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of urban planning and development.
- Proficiency in GIS software and other planning-related tools.
- Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with local government processes and regulations is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous internship or work experience in a planning or development role.
- Certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or eligibility to obtain certification.
Working Conditions:
- Office environment with occasional fieldwork.
- Attendance at evening meetings may be required.
Salary Range: Based upon qualifications and experience.
