Position Title: Laborer, Asphalt Plant FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Department: Materials/Asphalt Plant
Reports to: Area Manager
Salary Level: Commensurate upon experience
Location: Wichita, KS
Position Summary:
We are seeking an asphalt plant laborer to join our team. This position assists with the daily operations of the asphalt plant. This includes the maintenance of equipment, the handling of raw materials, and the monitoring of production processes to ensure the efficient and safe production of asphalt. The plant laborer works collaboratively with the team to minimize downtime and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. Some travel might be required for this position.
Essential Functions:
- Assist with the setup, operation, and clean-up of the asphalt plant.
- Monitor plant operations to ensure production runs smoothly and efficiently.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of plant equipment and surrounding areas.
- Load and unload materials such as sand, gravel, and asphalt into or from trucks and hoppers.
- Perform basic mechanical repairs and report any major maintenance needs.
- Assist plant operators and other crew members as needed.
- Record material usage and assist with inventory control.
- Operate machinery or tools when properly trained and certified.
- Be aware of the other equipment and personnel working in the area.
- Report to assigned job area in proper attire and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in policies and procedures manual, and OSHA and MSHA guidelines.
- Possess a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
- Desire to learn and commitment to working safely.
- Flexibility to work various schedules and stay late when necessary with little or no notice.
- Must be willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Mechanically inclined preferred. Position assists with plant repairs, breakdowns, etc.
- Possess ability to follow instructions with strong oral and written skills.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers and supervisors.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures at all times.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience in construction, asphalt, or heavy equipment operation is a plus.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, climbing, and standing for long periods.
- Willingness to work in outdoor environments and in all weather conditions.
- Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to use hand/power tools.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license preferred.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is exposed to airborne particles. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
