Position Title: Quality Control Technician

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Department: Ready-Mix

Reports to: QC Manager

Salary Level: Commensurate upon experience

Location: Kansas

Summary:

We are seeking a Quality Control Technician to join our team. The QC Technician is responsible for testing and inspecting ready mix concrete to ensure it meets the required specifications and industry standards. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product consistency, safety, and compliance with regulations and client requirements. The QC Technician works collaboratively with the team to minimize downtime and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. Some travel is required for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and standardized tests on fresh and hardened concrete (e.g., slump, air content, unit weight, temperature, compressive strength).
• Sample concrete from ready-mix trucks at job sites and batch plants.
• Monitor the quality of raw materials (aggregates, cement, admixtures).
• Ensure mix designs meet project and client specifications.
• Assist in developing and maintaining mix designs and documentation.
• Record and report test results, maintaining accurate and organized documentation.
• Communicate test results and quality concerns to plant and project personnel.
• Calibrate and maintain testing equipment.
• Support the implementation of quality assurance procedures and company safety standards.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to concrete performance.
• Report to assigned job area in proper attire and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
• Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in policies and procedures manual, and OSHA and MSHA guidelines.
• Desire to learn and commitment to working safely.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
• Travel is expected with this position.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• ACI Field Testing Technician – Grade I certification preferred (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
• 1–3 years of experience in ready mix concrete testing or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of ASTM, ACI, and DOT testing procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and specifications.
• Proficient in basic math and computer skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Willingness to work in various outdoor conditions and travel to job sites as needed.
• Previous experience in construction or heavy equipment operation is a plus.
• Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to use hand/power tools.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is exposed to airborne particles. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
