Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Shop Foreman to oversee our construction operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction management, with expertise in supervising teams, project scheduling, and budgeting. This role is essential for ensuring that projects are completed efficiently, on time, and within budget while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
Responsibilities
Supervision of Fabrication & Millwright Operations
- Supervise the fabrication and assembly of metal structures, equipment and machinery
- Assign task to skilled workers and ensure they follow proper procedures and timelines
- Monitor progress and quality, provide technical guidance and troubleshooting when necessary.
Quality Control:
- Ensure all fabrication components and machinery meet engineering specification and industry standards
- Inspect finished products for defects, ensuring they comply with safety regulations and customer requirements.
- Ensure that all work meets the tolerances and accuracy required by blueprints or schematics.
Team Management & Development
- Lead, train and mentor a team of fabricators, millwrights, welders and other technicians.
- Ensure all fabricators and millwrights are efficient and start the day to company standards.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback on employee skills, performance, quality of work and areas for improvement.
- Schedule and coordinate training to ensure staff are up to date with equipment usage, welding, and safety practices.
- Address personnel issues including discipline and foster a positive work environment.
- Conduct write-ups if personnel break company policy.
Safety & Compliance:
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA standards and shop safety regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and lead safety meetings to prevent workplace accidents.
- Ensure all personnel wear the appropriate PPE and operate machinery safely.
Inventory and Equipment Management:
- Oversee the maintenance and proper use of tools, machinery, and fabrication equipment.
- Manage material inventory and ensure proper handling of metals, components and consumables.
- Work with vendors to ensure the shop has the required materials and supplies for ongoing projects.
Project Planning and Scheduling:
- Develop work schedules and timelines for fabrication and millwright projects
- Coordinate with project managers and clients to ensure that the job specifications, timelines and budgets are met. (Print drawings and make process sheets with pertinent information)
- Coordinate, communicate and review drawings with Engineers/Drafters to ensure they are designed effectively and capable.
- Do take-offs and order material to complete projects effectively.
- Act as a liaison between management and shop/millwright employees.
- Ensure the jobs are completed on time, within scope, and according to client specifications.
Administrative Tasks:
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, labor hours, material usage (Daily time sheets and T&M sheets)
- Assist with the preparation of job cost estimates and project budgets.
