Position Overview: PDILA is seeking a passionate and dedicated Elementary Art Teacher for grades 2 through 5 for the 2025-2026 school year. The Art Teacher will play a vital role in fostering a love for visual arts, developing students' artistic skills, and integrating art education with leadership principles. Under limited supervision, the Art Teacher will plan and present innovative, developmentally appropriate lessons that inspire creativity and enhance students' artistic and academic growth.
Key Responsibilities:
· Instruction & Curriculum Development
- Plan and implement engaging art lessons aligned with South Carolina state standards and the school's curriculum.
- Design and deliver lessons that explore various artistic techniques, media, and cultural art forms.
- Encourage creative expression through individual and collaborative art projects.
- Integrate art history and cultural appreciation into lessons to promote global awareness.
· Classroom Environment & Student Engagement
- Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment appropriate to students’ maturity and interests.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and media to meet diverse learning needs.
- Integrate Leader in Me principles into classroom culture and instruction.
- Develop reasonable classroom procedures and expectations, maintaining order in a fair and just manner.
· Student Assessment & Data-Driven Instruction
- Assess, document, and analyze student progress regularly, providing feedback to students and parents.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, grades, and assessments as required by law and school policy.
- Identify and report suspected learning or other disabilities to district specialists as appropriate.
· Collaboration & Professional Development
o Participate in ongoing professional development, professional learning communities (PLCs), and staff training.
o Attend staff meetings and serve on committees to support school initiatives.
o Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate art into core subjects and interdisciplinary projects.
o Engage with colleagues to develop cross-curricular connections and support holistic student learning.
· School & Community Engagement
o Participate in ongoing professional development, professional learning communities (PLCs), and staff training.
o Attend staff meetings and serve on committees to support school initiatives.
o Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate art into core subjects and interdisciplinary projects.
o Engage with colleagues to develop cross-curricular connections and support holistic student learning.
· Administrative & Operational Duties
- Maintain an organized classroom and inventory of art supplies and equipment.
- Ensure student safety and well-being during class and art-related activities.
- Arrange for guest artists and community partnerships to enhance the art program.
Additional Duties
- May provide remedial assistance to individuals, small groups or entire classes of students as scheduled during or after regular school hours.
- Maintains a clean and orderly classroom.
- Performs related duties as required and assigned.
Attendance:
- Attends and remains at work regularly and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absenteeism and tardiness.
- Provides adequate notice to higher management with respect to vacation time and leave requests.

Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Art Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
· Valid and current South Carolina teaching certificate in Art Education or eligibility for certification.
· Proficiency in a variety of artistic media and knowledge of diverse cultural art forms.
- Strong understanding of child development and best practices in elementary education.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
