Position Overview: PDILA is seeking a passionate and dedicated Elementary Music Teacher for grades 2 through 5 for the 2025-2026 school year. The Music Teacher will play a vital role in fostering a love for music, developing students' musical skills, and integrating music education with leadership principles. Under limited supervision, the Music Teacher will plan and present innovative, developmentally appropriate lessons that inspire creativity and enhance students' musical and academic growth.
Key Responsibilities:
· Instruction & Curriculum Development
o Plan and implement engaging music lessons aligned with South Carolina state standards and the school's curriculum.
o Design and deliver lessons that include vocal and instrumental instruction, music theory, and cultural appreciation.
o Incorporate a variety of musical genres and instruments to create a dynamic, inclusive music program.
o Foster creativity and self-expression through musical performances and school-wide events.
· Classroom Environment & Student Engagement
- Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment appropriate to students’ maturity and interests.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and media to meet diverse learning needs.
- Integrate Leader in Me principles into classroom culture and instruction.
- Develop reasonable classroom procedures and expectations, maintaining order in a fair and just manner.
· Student Assessment & Data-Driven Instruction
- Assess, document, and analyze student progress regularly, providing feedback to students and parents.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, grades, and assessments as required by law and school policy.
- Identify and report suspected learning or other disabilities to district specialists as appropriate.
· Collaboration & Professional Development
- Participate in ongoing professional development, professional learning communities (PLCs), and staff training.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees to support school initiatives.
- Supervise and support teaching assistants, volunteers, and student organizations.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate music into core subjects and interdisciplinary projects.
- Engage with colleagues to develop cross-curricular connections and support holistic student learning.
· School & Community Engagement
o Build strong relationships with parents through open communication, parent-teacher conferences, and performance invitations.
o Facilitate extracurricular music programs and encourage student participation in community events.
o Organize and lead musical performances for school-wide celebrations and cultural events.
· Administrative & Operational Duties
- Maintain an organized classroom and inventory of musical instruments and supplies.
- Ensure student safety and well-being during class and performance-related activities.
- Arrange for guest musicians and community partnerships to enhance the music program.
Additional Duties
- May provide remedial assistance to individuals, small groups or entire classes of students as scheduled during or after regular school hours.
- Maintains a clean and orderly classroom.
- Performs related duties as required and assigned.
Attendance:
- Attends and remains at work regularly and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absenteeism and tardiness.
- Provides adequate notice to higher management with respect to vacation time and leave requests.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Valid and current South Carolina teaching certificate in Music Education or eligibility for certification.
- Proficiency in vocal and instrumental instruction and knowledge of diverse musical genres.
- Strong understanding of child development and best practices in elementary education.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
