Job Description:
The Youth Outdoor Program Intern will work with the Programs Team to plan and implement outdoor programs and summer camps for youth ages 6-12. This internship will provide experience in program development, environmental education, and outdoor recreation while working alongside experienced staff members.
Primary Responsibilities:
Program Support
- Assist in planning, organizing, and delivering outdoor programs for youth, including camps, nature classes, and guided activities
- Facilitate hands-on learning experiences such as nature crafts, wildlife observation, and outdoor skills training
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for program participants
- Lead small groups of children through activities, ensuring safety and encouraging participation
- Foster a connection to nature
- Monitor youth participants to ensure their safety and adherence to program guidelines
- Assist in managing outdoor risks and maintaining a safe environment during activities
- Set up and clean-up program materials and spaces before and after activities
- Maintain and organize outdoor equipment and supplies
- Work closely with the site manager and other team members to execute programs effectively
- Communicate with parents/guardians about program details, participant needs, and updates
- Observe and contribute ideas for enhancing program quality and participant experience
- Perform other tasks as assigned to support the goals of the youth outdoor programs
- Enthusiasm for working with youth and the outdoors
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Comfortable working in a variety of outdoor environments and weather conditions
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Must pass a background check
- Must be available to work the following weeks
- June 9th – 13th
- June 23rd – 27th
- July 7th – 11th
- July 21st – 25th
- Ability to lift objects up to 25 lbs
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends
- Gain hands-on experience in program development, outdoor education and recreation
