Job Description:
- End client is seeking an experienced IBM iSeries Platform Administrator to manage and maintain a complex IBM iSeries (Power Systems) environment .
- The role involves ensuring the stability, security, performance, and high availability of the platform while supporting mission-critical Supply Chain, Warehouse Management, Inventory, and Financial applications.
- The administrator will be responsible for infrastructure management, system tuning, security, backup and recovery, and automation to enhance operational efficiency.
Responsibilities:
System Administration & Infrastructure Management:
- Manage and maintain running on IBM iSeries.
- Install, upgrade, and apply PTFs (Program Temporary Fixes) and OS patches.
- Perform IPL (Initial Program Load) and system recovery as needed.
- Monitor and optimize CPU, memory, and disk utilization.
- Administer IBM Full System Flashcopy for HA and disaster recovery.
- Ensure business continuity through replication and backup strategies.
- Conduct DR testing and failover simulations to validate recovery processes.
- Support third-party core applications for Warehouse Management (WMS), Inventory, and Financials.
- Manage DB2 for i databases, including performance tuning, backup, and optimization.
- Troubleshoot batch jobs, job queues, and integration issues with external systems.
- Collaborate with application teams to optimize database and application performance.
- Implement role-based access control (RBAC), user authentication, and encryption mechanisms.
- Ensure compliance with security best practices and industry regulations.
- Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Manage user profiles, object authorities, and system auditing.
- Utilize IBM Navigator for iSeries and ACS (Access Client Solutions) for system monitoring.
- Optimize workload balancing, job scheduling, and system performance tuning.
- Analyze system logs and recommend proactive improvements.
- Automate recurring administrative tasks using CL (Control Language) and SQL scripting.
- Support integration with cloud and enterprise systems.
- Work on API enablement and modernization projects to extend IBM i capabilities.
- Act as L2/L3 support for IBM iSeries issues.
- Troubleshoot hardware, OS, and application-related issues.
- Document system configurations, troubleshooting steps, and best practices.
Required Skills:
- Extensive experience managing IBM iSeries AS/400 environments.
- Strong knowledge of LPAR management, system tuning, and storage management.
- Hands-on experience with IBM Full System Flash copy for HA/DR.
- Expertise in DB2 for iSeries administration, performance tuning, and query optimization.
- Familiarity with IBM iSeries Access Client Solutions (ACS) and IBM Navigator for iSeries.
- Proficiency in CL programming, SQL scripting, and job automation.
- Understanding of IBM iSeries security, user profiles, object-level security, and auditing.
- Experience in implementing MFA, TLS, and encryption standards.
- Knowledge of SOX, PCI-DSS, or other compliance frameworks.
- Ability to monitor system performance, analyze bottlenecks, and optimize workloads.
- Experience with job scheduling tools and workload automation.
- Experience working with third-party WMS, Inventory, and Financial applications.
- Exposure to API integrations and modernization tools.
- Knowledge of cloud integration (AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud) with iSeries is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
