JOB SUMMARY
The Bio Production Supervisor will oversee the manufacture of core company products including, but not limited to, brain powder, tissue, complement, and other blood products. The role will ensure compliance with written procedures throughout the manufacturing process, provide timely notice, and seek proper instruction to manage manufacturing issues. The Bio Production Supervisor will monitor bio production and collection personnel at the plant and labs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct, supervise, and schedule the daily activities of the Bio Production team at the Food Division plant, Bio Division labs, and complement collection / production.
- Responsible for ensuring the Production team follows written procedures throughout the manufacturing process by ensuring the following :
Provide timely notice and / or proper instructions and guidance to manage through manufacturing issues.
Assure that all production activities are in direct compliance with procedural and quality system requirements.Support all applicable regulations including, but not limited Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), ISO, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).Work and participate in a team environment involving shared responsibilities, problem solving, team goals, and continuous improvement.Understand and promote all company policies and procedures, as well as actively uphold and support the principles and values of the company.Supervise and manage all activities of biological production to meet customer requirements efficiently, accurately, and with the proper use of resources in the production process, and communicate any issues to upper management as they arise.Ensure proper allocation of resources and personnel for all processes.Monitor the efficiency of all production processes and develop improvements as needed.Meet schedule and performance objectives by establishing / meeting appropriate metrics and utilizing equipment and other resources effectively.Participate in company meetings and offer insight on support, management, production issue resolution, scheduling, policies and procedures, quality, and any other issues.Help conduct new hire interviews and offer input in hiring decisions.Monitor and document employee performance throughout the year in preparation of annual performance reviews.Approve employee timecards and PTO requests.Coordinate and / or conduct employee training on equipment operations, work and safety procedures, and specialized training required for experienced workers.Determine the feasibility of customer requests for custom work or other changes in production.Maintain strict adherence to good documentation practices.Understand and promote the quality system as a part of the Company's overall goal toward continual improvement through strict adherence to all company policies and procedures, as well as actively supporting and upholding the principles and values of the company.Comply with Pel-Freez, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), ISO, OSHA policies and procedures, food safety standards, general safety, animal welfare, quality, and good manufacturing practices.Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.Perform other duties as assigned.Based on the essential duties listed above, this position is considered safety-sensitive and therefore all work must be performed following quality standards and established safety procedures.
EDUCATION & RELATED EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required.A bachelor's degree, associate's degree, or technical certificate is required. Equivalent experience will be considered.General scientific knowledge is preferred.Previous experience working in food production, on a farm, or in a similar agricultural setting is preferred.Previous supervisory experience in a production or manufacturing environment is required.Fluency in Spanish is preferred.A valid driver's license and the ability to be covered under the Company's automobile insurance policy is required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge and understanding of safety procedures and industry regulations and guidelines required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).Basic understanding of planning and higher-level operational objectives.A demonstrated ability to lead a team in a manufacturing / production setting.An individual with exceptional problem solving and delegation abilities, time management and effective planning skills, and attention to detail.Flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside clients and vendors when necessary.Comfortability in working with raw, biological animal tissues.The ability to learn industry / company-specific software.The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.The ability to increase competency in custom high level products, special projects, acetone powders, gamma, sterile filtration, solutions, tissues, and complement collection and production.The ability to understand and comply with all company policies and procedures, and all applicable state and federal laws.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES AND INTERACTIONS WITH OTHERS
The Bio Production Supervisor is responsible for supervising Bio Production personnel at the plant and labs. Additionally, the role will be expected to frequently interact with co-workers, management, and the general public.
