Company Fitter/Welder Trainer
Job Summary:
A Company Fitter/Welder Trainer is responsible for teaching individuals the theoretical and practical skills of structural fitting and welding by demonstrating layout, fit-up, and welding techniques, operating welding equipment, and overseeing their practice to ensure they achieve proficiency in various fitting and welding processes, adhering to safety standards and industry best practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Curriculum development: Create and deliver welding training programs based on industry standards, including lesson plans, demonstrations, and practical exercises covering the Flux-cored (FCAW), Metal-cored (GMAW), Submerged Arc (SAW), and stick (SMAW) welding techniques.
- Safety instruction: Emphasize and enforce safety protocols in the welding environment, ensuring employees properly use protective gear and follow safety procedures.
- Equipment operation: Teach employees how to operate and maintain various welding equipment; including various hand tools, arc welders, plasma cutters, oxyacetylene torches, and material handling equipment (i.e. overhead cranes, forklifts).
- Practical demonstrations: Demonstrate layout, fitting, and welding techniques on different materials and joint configurations, explaining the critical fitting/welding variables like tolerances, voltage, amperage, wire feed speed, and preheat.
- Employee assessment: Evaluate employee’s progress through hands-on assessments, written tests, and practical projects to identify areas needing improvement.
- Individualized instruction: Provide personalized guidance to employees based on their skill level and learning pace, addressing specific challenges they may face.
- Industry standards compliance: Stay updated on Pelco and customer specifications, welding codes, standards, and industry best practices to ensure employees are trained according to current requirements.
Skills Required:
- Expert welding skills: Extensive experience in various welding processes, including Flux-cored (FCAW), Metal-cored (GMAW), Submerged Arc (SAW), and stick (SMAW) welding, with a high level of proficiency.
- Teaching ability: Strong communication skills to effectively explain complex welding concepts and techniques to employees with varying learning styles.
- Safety awareness: Thorough understanding of welding safety procedures and the ability to enforce them in the training environment.
- Blueprint reading: Ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings to guide employees in welding projects
- Technical knowledge: Understanding of welding equipment, its maintenance, and troubleshooting common issues.
- Certification (optional): Depending on the role, a welding certification from a recognized organization like the American Welding Society (AWS) might be required.
Qualifications:
Two to five years prior experience working in a manufacturing environment as a company trainer.
