What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gauger/LACT Operator position at Pelican Gathering Systems, LLC?
General Job Summary
This is a pipeline operations position with Pelican gathering system. Gauger / LACT Operators are tasked with the safe operation and monitoring of all assets within Pelican's control. Day shift position. Eight 10-hour days on shift and six days off shift. Some overtime as directed by management but not on a continual basis.
Major Job Tasks
1. Measure quality and quantity of crude oil at lease tank batteries, start and monitor flow of oil into the pipeline system.
2. Observe all applicable A.P.I. Standards, and Recommended Practices concerning lease and L.A.C.T. Oil Sale Transfers.
3. Communicate with Production Lease Operators to facilitate which leases and which tanks are ready for purchase.
4. Operate LACT Units via SCADA and local control. Maintain safe working parameters of storage capacity and equipment pressure limitations.
5. Complete visual field visits of LACT Unit locations daily.
6. Drive long distances on occasion, encountering inclement weather and adverse conditions. Make repairs and/or modifications in the field under adverse conditions, sometimes after normal business hours.
7. Maintain a safe work environment by following company policy including, safety, regulatory, P.P.E., H2S, explosive atmospheres, and arc flash safety.
8. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in regard to Pipeline and SCADA-related regulations.
9. Maintain housekeeping duties related to gauging and shipping activities.
10. Work closely with other departments within the companies, as well as other pipeline company representatives.
11. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Strong working knowledge of fluid properties and dangers inherent with crude oil.
2. Familiar with centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, LACT units, tank gauging, custody transfer ticket preparation, meter proving, and pipeline pigging.
3. Proficient in MS Office for data analysis, reporting and document writing.
4. Must have working knowledge of liquid pipeline operations and A.P.I. Recommendations for tank gauging and lease oil purchase.
5. Written communication skills to fill out routine forms and records.
6. Oral communication skills to give, receive, or exchange information with coworkers.
7. Excellent Interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with others in order to coordinate activities and complete assigned tasks.
8. Ability to follow all company policies including, safety, regulatory, P.P.E. H2S, explosive atmospheres, grounding/bonding, etc.
9. Ability to follow specific, step-by-step instructions, standard procedures, and operating guidelines
10. Ability to work effectively without supervisory guidance.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 2-4 years in oil field or related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
1. Seeing: Must be able to see to use hand and/or power/measurement tools.
2. Talking: Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of spoken words.
3. Sitting: Must be able to sit for limited periods of time.
4. Standing/Walking/Mobility: Must be able to stand to use hand and/or power tools. Must maintain mobility to perform duties inside and outside of buildings. Must be able to work off a step ladder.
5. Bending/Reaching/Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to bend, reach, or stoop to use hand and/or power and/or measurement tools.
6. Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Heavy physical effort up to 75 pounds.
7. Manual Dexterity: Major portions of daily work require application of manual skills involving motor coordination and finger dexterity.
Work Environment
- Work is sometimes performed outside a regular office at remote pipeline locations.
- Light exposure to moving mechanical parts, high and unstable places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, flammable substances, loud noise, bright or dim lighting, and wet or humid conditions (non-weather).
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions including wind, rain, snow and heat.
