Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Keep shuttle boats fueled, cleaned, maintained and be willing and able to perform minor vessel up keep and repairs as needed.
As a Boat Captain - PT Seasonal, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our vessels while providing outstanding customer service to our guests. Reporting to the Boat Operations Manager, you will utilize your USCG License and mechanical knowledge to oversee boat operations and maintenance. Your core skills in management will enhance team coordination and safety protocols. Effective communication in English and CPR certification are essential as you engage with passengers and ensure a memorable experience on the water.
Help maintain cleanliness of boat, dock area and common grounds associated with Coconut Point Marina and Island Beach Park.
Report promptly to the Boat Operations Manager any equipment not in proper working order and use proper care in handling all equipment.
Help maintain shuttle boat hourly & daily computer records and monitor radio communications between boats, beach and marina office. Complete daily boat log reports.
Other Duties
Be able and willing to interact with other beach/boat staff employees in appropriate work place behavior.
Be able to work special evening events in season
Adhere to and ensure that Pelican Landing Community Association Standard Operating Procedures are followed and all Company assets are safeguarded
Adhere to all safety policies and will report any unsafe conditions to management.
Comply with all policies as described in the Pelican Landing Employee Handbook.
Other duties may be assigned, based on company’s needs.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Degree/GED; AA or other further education a plus.
- Active USCG Captain’s license with minimum 25 ton certification
Experience:
- Previous captain’s experience preferred
Special Skills and/or Abilities:
- Membership in the Maritime Consortium Drug Program
- Friendly personality and positive attitude towards customers
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
- Ability to meet US employment eligibility requirements and PLCA eligibility requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Will supervise boat mates during water transport from the mainland to the Island Beach Park and be responsible for the safety and well-being of all passengers.
Physical Demands
Be physically able to lift 40lbs and step across, up or down a 2 foot space and to perform all duties in a timely manner.
Training
CPR, First Aid and AED recertification training
Decision Making
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Any decisions inherent with the captaining of a passenger boat.

This person must be proficient in English for purposes of safety, management direction, job responsibility and third party interaction.
Must have excellent interpersonal/communication and customer service skills - approachable, cheerful, helpful, etc.
Equipment Used
Shuttle passenger boat; office machines, phones, computers, two way radios, fuel and oil.
Work Environment
Private: Marina to Island
Boat operations run 7 days a week, 364 days a year. Captains need to be able to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
Considerable interaction with co-workers and residents.
