What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Screener position at Pelican Plasma?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the efficient and effective screening of prospective donors to determine suitability for plasma donation in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory guidelines.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Performs donor identification, registration and screening to determine donor suitability according to cGMPs, SOPs, CFR, PPTA standards, customer specifications and Company policies.
· Must be able to draw vein and finger stick samples as required.
· Maintains smooth and efficient flow of donors through registration and screening.
· Must be competent in assessing pre-donation unsuitability signals, performing vital signs, HCT/TP testing, donor deferral and donor reaction management.
· Coordinates with physician/physician substitutes for physicals, assessments, document review, SPE approval, NAT testing protocols, immunizations, etc.
· Perform general clerical duties as required with attention to accuracy.
· Understands and performs proper DMS computer entry and comments for donor data and exceptions, and assist in other activities as required.
· Records any required documentation accurately and in compliance with Company SOPs.
· Understands Company special donor programs, e.g. pre-existing antibodies and immunizations.
· Participates in various meetings, such as in-service training, continuing education programs, staff meetings, and safety meetings.
· Models LifeShare’s mission and values, integrating them into daily decisions, behaviors and actions.
· Promotes cooperation and communication within a team to achieve Company and departmental goals and deliverables.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Must be dependable, punctual and have effective communication skills.
· Must demonstrate a positive approach toward donors and other staff members, acting in a highly professional manner at all times.
· Must be able to maintain confidentiality of donor information at all times.
· Demonstrated basic knowledge of computer equipment and software (DMS with training).
· Demonstrated accuracy in complete and concurrent documentation.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBLITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:
FLOATER: All of the above, plus
· Is cross-trained to support plasma collection procedures as needed
· Assists in the preparation, set-up and tear down of equipment for plasma collection procedures.
· Provides assistance and information to donor during and following collection process; monitors donor for adverse reactions and provides post-donation care
· Maintains, stocks, organizes, and cleans functional work area, supplies, and equipment, reporting malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
· May assist in recruitment, scheduling and education of plasma donors
TEAM LEAD: All of the above, plus
· May provide guidance and immediate direction to junior medical screeners
· Makes decisions relative to safety issues, company policies and public relations
· Performs departmental record control responsibilities to include review, corrective action and organization
· Meets or exceeds all position competencies and departmental quality standards
· Requires satisfactory completion of team leader training modules
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENT:
· Ability to pull and lift equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs., unassisted
· Ability to perform duties requiring sitting or standing for long periods of time without relief
· Must be able to work flexible and/or extended shifts
· Work involves potential exposure to infectious diseases from blood and blood products
