Summary

Drives the operations in South Deerfield while continuously exceeding established site S,Q,D,C,I targets. Creates and sustains a positive work environment that has high levels of safety accountability, employee engagement, high morale, focus on data analytics, and collaborative interaction across all levels of the organization. Delivers exemplary performance across all aspects of 6S to drive Pelican’s competitive edge in plastics manufacturing.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Accountable for all Operations, Maintenance, Warehouse and Inventory Control functions in the business.
  • Creates and sustains an environment of 6S accountability driven by data points and floor-based visible management systems which leads to consistent successful achievement of annual strategic objectives.
  • Plans, coordinates and directs daily manufacturing processes and operations teams in order to meet quality, cost, and delivery goals.
  • Responds with a sense of urgency to successfully deliver short and long-term business opportunities. Collaborates with Planning, Purchasing, Engineering, New Product Development, and Quality to create new and profitable product production.
  • Drives an innovative approach to problem-solving---poke-yokes, pictograms, electronic / video driven work instructions, and other visible management tools to ensure associates have proper education and compliance / audit ability.
  • Drives and sustains a culture of safety excellence across the facility. Ensures that Pelican’s first priority is understood that all employees and quests are safe and injury free. Supports safety initiatives such as ergonomics programs, risk assessments and always challenges the status quo by supporting safe behavior, new and improved work methods and changes in fixturing, tooling and equipment to achieve and sustain low TRIR and LTIR rates.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage complex manufacturing inventory systems which provide effective supply, optimized stocking levels, and minimal variances related to WM and IM inventory management.
  • Develops and drives an overall culture of continuous improvement by collaborating with staff at all levels to identify opportunities to improve production times, reduce costs, reduce variances, create a safer work environment, reduce inventory levels, etc.
  • Models the concepts of “Operational Excellence” and transforms the facility and culture into a state-of-the-art facility that supports and improves our recruitment and retention efforts as an Employer of Choice
  • Drives the use of Hour: Hour boards, shift change meetings, and LPAs to continuously monitor performance and use this data to drive actions to continuously improve.
  • Develops, maintains, and provides visibility to operations budgets, reports actions taken against variances, and executes capital plans for the facility.
  • Proactively lead and manage OPs talent. Identifies, rewards and develops high performers continually. Addresses low performance proactively through effective coaching, needed skill development and if necessary, performance management. Establishes and sustains a culture of staff development and performance that “continually raises the bar.”
  • Performs special projects and additional duties as assigned by the VP/GM South Deerfield.
  • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Business, Engineering or related technical field, or equivalent specific experience.
  • 10 /- years of leadership experience driving manufacturing teams. Experience in Plastic Roto molding, Injection molding and/ or machining is a plus.
  • Strong sense of urgency to address issues and take actions to implement changes to improve operational performance and the organizational culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and lead a manufacturing culture built on the standards of Operational Excellence, including Visual Management & Process Controls.
  • Solid foundation and experience establishing and managing Lean Daily Management including Tier meetings, Layered Process Audits, Cascading KPI management through SQCDIP
  • A solid grasp on lean manufacturing concepts and demonstrated track record of transforming manufacturing plants through Value Stream Mapping, 6-Sigma methodology and disciplined root cause analysis methods.
  • Strong Operational financial skills, knowledge of best business practices such as inventory management, and experience in managing the planning and budgeting aspects of the manufacturing process.
  • Demonstrated knowledge related to; MES, SAP, MRP, BOM / ROUTING / STDs / Cost management systems
  • Accomplishments in the areas of manufacturing demand forecasting and supply planning to ensure proper supply chain management alignment.
  • Demonstrated significant accomplishments in the areas of creating successful safety and housekeeping/efficient (6S) cultures at all levels of manufacturing.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and interact effectively and cooperatively with team at all levels.
  • Ability to coach for success and guide the development of successful leaders at all levels.
  • Proven collaborator with a track record of creating successful business relationships with stakeholders.
  • Must always champion ethical business practices.
  • Must be a self-motivated, proactive, focused high achiever who consistently shows the abilities to facilitate and sustain profitable growth when responding to industry changes.
  • Must have the ability to assess personnel requirements and organize, plan, staff and lead operations; must be able to translate Company objectives into understandable language by staff at all levels, effectively communicate and drive them.

  • Must be able to travel, nationally and internationally, as necessary.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be constantly required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • This position requires repetitive hand/wrist activities.

Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on your qualifications, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
