Job Duties
- Performs daily inspections on finished good products and/or components at various production and QA work areas including receiving, in process and finished goods inspection.
- Writes procedures, Quality Alerts, and quality control inspection checklists to provide quality guidance at point of manufacture and inspectors.
- Works closely with cross-functional teams, including product design, product management, and production to identify and mitigate quality risks.
- Audits production processes, raw materials, and suppliers/vendors to ensure that established quality standards are met.
- Conducts root cause analysis for defects, non-conformities, and/or other quality failures.
- Performs dimensional, visual, and other procedural checks and tests. Tests and checks finished products, subassemblies, component parts where a variety of sizes, shapes, weights, and materials are inspected.
- Performs external and internal on-the-spot product verification to finished-goods or stock parts in identifying bad lots for isolation purposes against the good lot stocks.
- Notifies Lead/Supervisor of inspection failures and/or of tolerances/specifications situations. Performs quality planning, corrective/preventive action, internal and external auditing and develops Standard Work Instructions/Test Procedures as required.
- Assists in training of new inspectors on proper documentation and inspection techniques.
- Create and communicate nonconformances reports for materials and processes that fail to meet the quality standards, review, and approve first piece reports as required and properly handle non-conforming materials in and out of MRB location.
- Assists in the creation and accuracy of test methods for new and existing products to verify compliance to Pelican’s Quality Standards.
- Provides assistance to the process engineer in performing trial runs for new products or to existing products noted with functional, dimensional, and cosmetic issues.
- Ensures compliance with formal external quality standards, such as ISO 9001.
- Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Associates degree in Quality Assurance or two years of experience in a Quality Technician role may substitute for degree
- Proficient in the use of measuring tools including calipers, micrometers, inside/outside micrometers, verniers, pin gauges, height gauges, radius gauges, protractors and dial indicators, optical comparators and coordinate measuring machines.
- Proficient in problem solving tasks and analyze causes of failure.
- Good knowledge of computer software, Microsoft Office including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to operate industrial trucks, including forklifts and man lifts; must be able to maintain certification and be able to work at elevated heights.
- One year of Quality Assurance Technician experience; mechanical inspection/calibration experience in a manufacturing environment and/or familiarity with plastics processing and product assembly
- Proficient GDT knowledge and ability to read blueprints at a proficient level, determine standards and relate drawings of parts to the actual parts Possess intermediate computer skills Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of SAP

- Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
- Must have the ability to complete assignments within the timeframe specified by the Manager.
- Must be flexible regarding working hours and overtime. Must be able to work overtime on evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice.
- Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Emphasizes ethical leadership and decision-making to protect Pelican’s brand and reputation.
- Must be able to travel, nationally and internationally, as necessary.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
