Job Summary: The Pembroke Hill School seeks a full-time physics instructor to join the Upper School Science Department for the 2025-26 school year. The ideal candidate should be a creative thinker who can innovate labs, develop curriculum, redesign courses, and collaborate effectively with colleagues. The successful candidate has a passion for teaching and learning and can convey this enthusiasm to students, parents and the school.

Key Responsibilities:

• Teach four sections of upper school physics (junior level and AP)
• Collaborate and work cooperatively with all department members to design engaging, quality lessons which include formative and summative assessments.
• Establish a classroom environment conducive to student learning and achievement.
• Possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Manage and fulfill other duties as assigned.
  
  

Schedule: Teaching positions are based on the school year (August through May). During the school year, there are three school vacations: one week at Thanksgiving, two weeks in December, and two weeks in March plus holidays, personal and sick days.

Compensation: Compensation will be based on a competitive norm influenced by area and peer schools, using years of teaching experience and the highest completed degree. Transcripts and verification of employment will be required. • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods. For elementary and lower school, sit on the floor for extended periods of time.
• Ability to enter data into a computer, to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
• Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone
• Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone
• Physical ability to lift, carry and/or hold up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height
• Ability to occasionally balance, reach, bend, squat, stoop, or kneel
• Ability to climb stairs, walk, and occasionally run, if required
  
  

Qualifications And Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
• 1-3 years of teaching experience in physics or a related subject area required.
• The ability to teach junior level physics and AP Physics preferred.
• A strong background in physics, as demonstrated by an undergraduate degree in physics or a related subject area such as physics or chemistry.
• Ability and willingness to be involved in the STEM extracurriculars currently offered through our department, i.e. Science Olympiad, Robotics (FTC) and Science Knowledge Bowl.
