PEMEX Deer Park is a highly complex refinery located 18 miles east of Houston in Deer Park, TX, and is a part of the PEMEX group which is a fully integrated oil company in the Americas, working across the entire value chain : exploration, production, industrial processing / refining, logistics and marketing. PEMEX Deer Park is hiring one Mechanical Engineering Intern for Summer 2025. The position is for individuals who are currently enrolled full-time students in an accredited Mechanical Engineering program. The goal of the position is to provide an opportunity for an intern to obtain the skills and experience to help prepare for a successful career. It will allow interns to apply knowledge learned in school to a real-world manufacturing setting, and gain insight into the operation of a large-scale refinery.
As A Mechanical Engineering Intern You Will
Work with Mechanical Engineers to provide engineering support to the assigned production area and deliver improvements to asset integrity and reliability of equipment, ensuring safe operations and sound environmental performance. To accomplish this, the role is empowered to own the performance of static and rotating equipment within their operating units.
- Work with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering counterparts to solve day-to-day problems, ensuring safe and reliable unit operation
- Assist with the troubleshooting of rotating equipment in the field and provide technical support as needed.
- Utilize causal reasoning to solve problems within the area production team.
- Perform investigations on failures related to mechanical equipment bad actors.
- Seek to understand the root cause of failures and mitigate findings with robust solutions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Work collaboratively with team members with different backgrounds and perspectives at all levels of the organization.
- Participate in other opportunities as assigned by the intern supervisor.
- Provide regular updates on the project status to stakeholders.
- Develop and deliver a presentation for the VP of Engineering and other management staff to communicate outcomes from the assigned project, in addition to learnings and accomplishments. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in presenting to senior management.
