PEMEX Deer Park is a highly complex refinery located 18 miles east of Houston in Deer Park, TX. It is part of the Pemex group, a fully integrated oil company in the Americas, working across the entire value chain: exploration, production, industrial processing/refining, logistics, and marketing. The refinery’s rated capacity is 340,000 barrels per day and has the feed flexibility to process multiple grades of crudes to produce the high-quality transportation fuels the world needs. The Pemex site is co-located with other 3rd party chemical facilities, allowing for further integration and optimization of the refinery and its products. As the Operations Support Engineer (OSE), you will be accountable for technical support and assurance to one or more Production Units within the PEMEX Deer Park Refinery. This position is a technical development role responsible for monitoring process units' operations safely, reliably, and efficiently. You will work in multidisciplinary teams and will be required to manage conflicting priorities effectively through multiple Production Areas and teams. This assignment offers a chance to cultivate expertise in manufacturing process technology, technical safety, and fundamental process engineering skills.
To be successful as an Operations Support Engineer, you should have:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or related field
- 1-5 years of process engineering experience in oil, gas, or petrochemical industry
- Experience with process simulation software (e.g., Petro-SIM, ProMax, HYSYS)
- Demonstrated knowledge of refinery processes and operations
- Ability to work in industrial environments with physical demands, including elevated work up to 100 feet and extended hours during critical events
Responsibilities as the Operations Support Engineer will include:
- Monitor and optimize production unit performance, ensuring safe and profitable operations while providing daily technical guidance to operations teams
- Lead technical support for critical operations, including startups, shutdowns, turnarounds, and special test runs, performing necessary engineering analyses and process modeling
- Execute and oversee process changes through Management of Change (MOC), conducting hazard assessments and implementing risk mitigation strategies
- Investigate and resolve complex technical issues, conducting root cause analyses and developing robust solutions to prevent recurrence
- Collaborate across disciplines to support long-term strategy planning, process hazard analyses (PHAs), and facility improvement initiatives
