Job Title: Product Designer

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Hours: Full Time, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm

Work Location: La Mesa, CA, hybrid or fully remote

Reports to: Product Design Manager

Salary Range: $100,000 to $130,000


Summary

As a Product Designer at PenChecks, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of financial technology by designing user-friendly and visually appealing products. We are seeking a designer with a passion for discovering solutions that enable our users to intuitively use our products.


The ideal candidate will be skilled at each stage of the design process but always focused on the core needs of the user experience. Product designers define requirements, set scope, design the information architecture, and conduct both internal and external user research. As a product designer you will also translate your research into user flows, mockups, functional prototypes, and final deliverable UI.


PenChecks runs a highly collaborative Agile environment. Product designers work with product management, other designers, business analysts, engineers, developers, QA, architecture, users, and other stakeholders. By partnering with cross-functional teams and users, you will turn your insights into delightful experiences in a creative environment that requires proven leadership skills and the ability to execute a creative vision.


Responsibilities

User-Centered Design: Advocate for the user by conducting user research, usability testing, and by creating personas to inform product design decisions.

Wireframing and Prototyping: Create wireframes, interactive prototypes, and mockups to communicate your design ideas and concepts effectively.

Information Architecture: Organize and structure complex financial data and features to ensure intuitive navigation and user flow within our digital products.

Visual Design: Develop visually appealing, on-brand, and cohesive design systems, including typography, color palettes, and iconography.

Collaboration: Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to translate business goals and user needs into design solutions.

Design Testing: Conduct UAT and analyze user feedback to iterate and refine product designs to ensure continuous improvement.

Accessibility: Ensure that designs meet accessibility standards and best practices to provide an inclusive user experience for all.

Compliance: Stay up to date with industry regulations and standards related to the financial sector and incorporate them into design solutions.

Documentation: Create design specifications, style guides, and other documentation to support the development and implementation of your designs.

Stay Current: Keep up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in fintech design. Share knowledge and insights with the design team.

Contribute to the creation, continuous improvement, and maintenance of the design system.

Clearly communicate to product managers and other stakeholders how your solutions address user needs along with business goals.

Requirements:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Bachelor s degree in a relevant field such as Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related discipline.

1-3 years of product design experience, preferably with B2B enterprise software

Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, or similar.

Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, usability, and information architecture.

Knowledge of financial industry regulations and compliance is a significant advantage.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams.

Experience with A/B testing and user research methodologies.

Familiarity with front-end development principles and capabilities is a plus.

Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in a rapidly changing technical landscape

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities?

Experience working with and contributing to a design system

Working in an Agile and SCRUM setting

Experience with the use of Jira, Microsoft DevOps, Rally, etc.

Experience in fintech, specifically the retirement services industry

The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel.
