Position Type: Short-Term, Temporary (3 months)
Location: Syracuse, NY
Shifts: Six 12-hour shifts every 2 weeks
Salary: $68 per hour

The Pediatric PACU RN is responsible for providing high-quality, compassionate care to pediatric patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures. This role requires advanced critical care skills to monitor, assess, and intervene for post-operative complications while ensuring patient safety and comfort. The ideal candidate will be adept at working in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver optimal outcomes for pediatric patients.
Responsibilties:
- Assess and monitor pediatric patients immediately post-operation, including vital signs, pain levels, and emergence from anesthesia.
- Recognize and respond to critical changes in patient condition (e.g., respiratory distress, hemodynamic instability).
- Administer medications, IV fluids, and interventions as ordered.
- Manage airway support, including oxygen therapy and ventilator weaning.
- Educate and communicate with parents/guardians regarding post-op care, discharge instructions, and recovery expectations.
- Provide emotional support to families during the recovery process.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to individualized care plans.
- Work closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare providers to ensure seamless transitions of care.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and PACU-specific policies.
- Document all care accurately and timely in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Ensure compliance with hospital, state, and federal regulations (e.g., HIPAA, Joint Commission standards).
- Initiate emergency interventions (e.g., PALS protocols) for post-anesthesia complications.
- Assist with rapid response or code blue situations as needed.
Requirements:
- Current New York State Registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Certified in BLS and able to berecertified.
- Minimum of 2 years recent experience (within past 2 years) in an acutecare facility of similar size and level as Hospital.
- Must be experienced in hospitals or trauma centers.
- Experience with EPIC Electronic Medical Records preferred.
- Must possess excellentinterpersonal and communication skills.
