Job Description

Under direct supervision of the physician, assists in patient care as delegated by the physician. Performs clerical duties, phlebotomy, simple laboratory functions, and assists in direct patient care. Ensures patients and customers are processed in a professional, timely and efficient manner.

Utilizes the nursing process, for the performance of patient care, to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient care to achieve prioritized patient outcomes.

Performs admission assessment. Obtains vital signs, blood pressures, pulse, temperature, heights, and weights and records information appropriately, accurately and in a timely manner.

· Reviews and updates medication list at each visit. Documents allergies and type of reaction.

· Demonstrates personal accountability in the delivery of patient care in a competent, professional and compassionate manner.

· Maintains patient flow from waiting area to exam rooms and keeps patients informed of unexpected waits.

Delegates, appropriately, tasks/procedures to other team members who are prepared/qualified to perform.

Assists provider during clinic in accordance with CMA scope of practice. This includes, but not limited to:

· Collects and prepares specimens for lab tests as needed.

· Maintains instruments and equipment.

· Preps patients for procedures.

· Performs treatments including childhood/adult immunizations.

· Prepares and administers medications as directed by a physician.

· Provides patient teaching as needed during clinic visit including family or significant other as indicated.

Minimum 36 hours per week.

Experience and Skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience

• Effective knowledge and familiarity with word processing, computer navigation, and e-mail
• Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program
• Must have knowledge of correct telephone answering techniques
• Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with customers and all members of the health care team
• Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change
• Minimum 3 years customer services experience preferred

Certificates, Licensure, Registrations

• Active Certified Medical Assistant license
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
