What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Maintenance Technician position at Pender County Government?
Performs intermediate skilled trades work in the maintenance, repair, modification and installation of buildings and facilities, performs skilled maintenance and repair work in electrical, painting, carpentry, plumbing and mechanical fields, installs and maintains street signs, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor. Assist with other duties as needed or assigned.

- Conducts periodic checks on chiller and boiler to ensure operating efficiency; maintains water levels; makes necessary system repairs.
- Maintains and repairs HVAC units and air compressors, transports generators to various locations.
- Performs periodic preventative maintenance checks on assigned systems.
- Performs carpentry, electrical, mechanical, electronic, and plumbing repair and maintenance work.
- Installs new plumbing systems; repairs and maintains plumbing installations such as commodes, sinks, etc.
- Installs and replaces electrical equipment or wiring, breakers, switches, controls, motors and light sources.
- Repairs and installs street signs.
- Researches and locates parts and materials.
Thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools and terminology of the general mechanical and building trades; thorough knowledge of the use and characteristics of common building materials; general knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with the work; skill in the use of tools and equipment; ability to work from sketches, drawings, plans or specifications; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to estimate needed materials and time required for various jobs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
High school diploma or GED and considerable experience in general building trades including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and electrical, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina. This position is a safety sensitive position and subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance with the Pender County Personnel Policy and Risk Policy.
