SUMMARY: The job of Custodian is done for the purpose(s) of maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe facility; providing adequate arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure.

- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- Social Security Card
- Proof of immunity to Measles and German Measles
- Valid picture ID
- Fingerprint/background clearance (upon employment)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and events
- Attends in-service training (e.g. new methods, equipment, blood-borne pathogens, etc.) for the purpose of receiving information on new or improved methods and/or equipment
- Cleans school facilities (e.g. classrooms, offices, restrooms, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment
- Evaluates situations (e.g. involving other staff, students, parents, the public, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution
- Informs students, other site personnel and supervisor(s) for the purpose of providing information regarding activities, safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities
- Inspects school site for the purpose of ensuring safety and cleanliness and identifying necessary repairs due to vandalism
- Oversees general helper(s) for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the work force and meeting shift requirements
- Prepares reports (e.g. work orders, requisitions, etc.) for the purpose of documenting information
- Repairs various items (e.g. plumbing, irrigation, door locks, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition
- Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items as needed to properly maintain facilities
- Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured students, broken windows, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns
- Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, loss and/or liability and ensuring safety at work site
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Skills are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: utilizing equipment used in profession.
Knowledge is required to perform basic math, understand written procedures, write routine documents and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step oral and written instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: various position-specific information learned on-the-job.
Ability is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings and/or events; collate data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; communicating with diverse groups; and meeting deadlines and schedules.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding and/or coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and some finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 70% walking and 25% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
