CLASS TITLE: TEACHER

REPORTS TO: School Principal / Superintendent or Designee

BASIC FUNCTION:

To create a learning environment that caters to the needs, interests, and abilities of each student. The goal is to foster intellectual growth, emotional development, and psychological well-being.

  • Teach assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Develop a curriculum that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, considering student maturity and interests.
  • Prepare for classes and maintain records of preparation upon request.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and establish clear objectives.
  • Employ various instructional techniques and media to meet student needs.
  • Implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
  • Assess student progress regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assist in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Be available for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for instructional aides and volunteers.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Maintain regular attendance.

  • Research methods and report writing techniques.
  • Laws, rules, and regulations related to assigned activities.
  • Policies and objectives of assigned programs and activities.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Technical aspects of the field of specialty.

  • Maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Operate a computer terminal.
  • Prioritize and schedule work.
  • Learn, apply, and explain policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements, and restrictions.
  • Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Meet schedules and time lines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Work is performed while standing, sitting, and/or walking.
  • Requires ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Requires use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
  • Requires ability to lift, carry, push, or pull light weights up to approximately 20 pounds.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree in field of assignment (minimum requirement)LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Kentucky Teaching Certification for area and grade level of assignment
