JOB TITLE: Special Education Diagnostician/Interventionist/English Learner Coordinator
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Special Education and/or Title III Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Hold a master’s degree or higher in psychology, education, occupational therapy, social work, counseling, or a closely related field in educational assessment.
2. Hold a current Kentucky Special Education Teacher certificate (and such alternatives to this qualification as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable).
3. A current Kentucky certification for teaching English as a Second Language or an agreement to obtain the certification within three years of accepting the position (the district will pay for the required coursework if candidate signs a MOA)
4. Knowledge of federal and state statutes and regulations governing special education.
5. Experience in the administration and interpretation of educational assessment.
6. Experience in the design and delivery of specially designed instruction and behavioral intervention.

JOB GOAL: To fulfill statutes and regulations related to the evaluation, identification, and placement of students with disabilities and English Learners and to collaborate with parents, educators, and others to provide appropriate programming to support student success.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serve as a liaison between the district and contracted psychologists to help coordinate multidisciplinary evaluations for students with disabilities and those suspected of disabilities.
2. Assist and support teachers in completing special education due process documents.
3. Assist with the various tracking and compliance procedures for students with disabilities and help monitor timelines regarding evaluations and eligibility.
4. Administer and/or coordinate educational evaluations for students with disabilities and those suspected of disabilities and prepare and submit accurate evaluation reports to relevant parties.
5. Review the educational records of students enrolling from other districts and assist teachers in determining appropriate placement and evaluation needs.
6. Attend Admissions and Release Committee (ARC) meetings as necessary to assist in the interpretation of evaluation results, the determination of special education eligibility, and the development of appropriate programming.
- Provide assistance and direct support to teachers in the design and delivery of specially designed instruction in both general education (co-teaching) and special education (resource) settings.
8. Provide assistance and direct support to teachers in the completion of functional behavioral assessments and the design and implementation of behavioral intervention plans.
9. Provide assistance and direct support to teachers in the collection and analysis of progress monitoring data in order to design and deliver instruction to meet the needs of their students.
10. Assist teachers and administrators in the design and implementation of systematic approaches to academic and behavioral intervention (RTI).
11. Provide and/or assist with staff trainings and professional development regarding evidenced-based practices, the English Learner program, and various special education topics.
12. Identify and administer WIDA, ACCESS, and any other testing as required by legislation to all potential EL students.
13. Develop, support in monitoring, and maintain documentation for Program Service Plans (PSPs) for all EL students.
14. Support EL student learning by providing resources and instructional strategies for the classroom teacher.
15. Assist in communication with parents through translated report cards, notes, conferences and other means to discuss pupils’ progress and interpret the school program. This may be accomplished with assistive technology or translator services.
16. Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure implementation of strategies including methods of differentiating instruction as well as appropriate accommodations and modifications, grouping, and assistive technology that will meet the individual needs, interests and abilities of all LEP students.
17. Consult with all stakeholders to develop the district’s LAU Plan.
18. Keep informed of new developments within the field and demonstrate professional growth in regard to knowledge and skills.
19. Maintain confidentiality of student information and provide all services consistent with relevant ethical, legal, and professional standards.
20. Perform additional duties consistent with the position as assigned by the supervisor(s).
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Contract and salary established by the Board of Education. Work schedule established by the supervisor.
