What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Health Program Director position at Peninsula Community Health Services?
The Behavioral Health Program Director is responsible for providing leadership for the mental health and substance use treatment programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Review applications, interview, and recommend to the Chief Executive Officer potential behavioral health staff members
- Participate in the orientation of new behavioral health providers
- Review and implement specific behavioral health operational protocols for the organization including triage, crisis/emergency management, wait list process, and administrative visits for reinstatement
- Develop and revise behavioral health policies and procedures of behavioral health programs
- Ensure that the behavioral health program addresses standards of care and strives to meet PCHS patient goals and objectives
- Oversee supervision of LMHC-a’s, LICSW-a’s, and SUDP-t’s
- Chair and participate in various committees, and task forces, both internal and external to the organization
- Coordinate program development initiatives with senior leadership
- Coordinate with outreach team
- Serve as clinical contact for DOH regarding licensure for mental health and substance use treatment agency license
- Coordinate activities with courts, correctional facilities, inpatient facilities, community services, and/or other agencies
- Conform to agency standards and regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, DEA, HCA, etc.) of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient’s rights
- Perform all standard duties as outlined in LMHC or LICSW job description as applicable
- Familiar with electronic healthcare software
- Monitor, and where applicable, oversee relevant provider and care staff to ensure delivery of care
- Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position directly supervises Licensed Mental Health Counselors, Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associates, Substance Use Disorder Professionals, Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainees, Licensed Social Workers, and Licensed Social Worker Associates.
Qualifications
- Active Psychiatrist License in Washington State (required)
- Substance Use Disorder Professional Certification (preferred)
- Three to five years of behavioral health-related experience (preferred)
- Three to five years of supervisory experience (preferred)
- Active CPR Certification (required)
- Valid driver’s license (required)
- Pay Range based on certification/credentialing.

Must have excellent communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team; to receive and respond well to feedback. Possess strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills; time-management and organizational skills, including being punctual, responsive, and efficient. Perform job with professionalism and good judgment.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
With multiple locations and settings, PCHS’ work environment and physical demands vary greatly depending on the employee’s role. Essential job functions include the following: The employee is required to talk, hear, see, smell, sit and stand. The employee is frequently required to move around the facility; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
