Position Purpose:
The Loan Officer plays a vital role within a small credit union, overseeing loan operations while supporting the broader needs of the organization. This position requires a highly organized, self-motivated, and service-driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The Loan Officer is responsible for originating, processing, and servicing loans, managing delinquency, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
In addition to core lending responsibilities, the Loan Officer serves as a valuable team resource, providing backup support across credit union functions such as teller services, account maintenance, and general operations. This role is ideal for someone who takes initiative, maintains a strong work ethic, and is committed to contributing to the success and growth of the credit union.
Key Responsibilities:
Loan Origination & Processing
- Interview members to assess lending needs and recommend appropriate loan products
- Collect, verify, and review loan applications and supporting documentation
- Underwrite loans within approved authority limits; prepare recommendations for loans outside limits
- Process and disburse loans accurately and efficiently
- Maintain thorough documentation and ensure compliance with credit union policies and regulations
- Maintain active registration as a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) under the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS)
- Maintain Notary Public commission and provide notary services as needed for member transactions
- Provide outstanding service to members in-person, over the phone, and via electronic communication, ensuring a positive and professional experience in all interactions.
- Proactively cross-sell credit union products and services that align with member goals
- Educate members on building credit, managing debt, understanding loan terms, and provide guidance on credit reports and how to improve scores
Loan Servicing & Collections
- Contact members regarding delinquent loans and accounts; negotiate payment solutions and document follow-up
- Recommend charge-offs and assist with legal or third-party collection efforts when necessary
- Process loan maintenance requests such as payment extensions, skip-a-pays, and modifications
- Manage payoff requests, lien releases, and tracking of titles and insurance
- Maintain accurate servicing records and monitor loan compliance post-funding
General Operations & Team Support
- Assist other team members during busy times or when staff coverage is needed
- Serve as backup support for account openings, online banking assistance, deposits/withdrawals, and other day-to-day credit union functions
- Help with administrative duties such as filing, scanning, and reporting
- Other duties as assigned
Compliance, Audit, and Reporting
- Assist with internal and external audits, including NCUA exams and Supervisory Committee reviews
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and credit union policies in all activities
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information

Complete pay scale for the position is $20.00/hr. to $32.00/hr.
