POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position: PENN HIGH SCHOOL CUSTODIAL OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR
Reports To: Facilities Custodial Operations Manager, Facilities Assistant Custodial Operations Manager, PHS Administration
Work Group: Auxiliary, 261 days
Compensation: Per experience
Evaluation: After 90-days, annually thereafter
Schedule: Full-time; Monday-Friday with some weekend and holiday work; 48-hour average work week with flexibility in hours and days as needed.
Summary:
The Custodial Operations Supervisor oversees all custodial operations at Penn High School, ensuring a clean, safe, and operationally excellent environment that supports the educational process. This is a salaried position requiring flexibility and a commitment to exceeding expectations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Lead, supervise, and train a team of custodial staff, including scheduling, assigning tasks, and providing guidance.
- Conduct regular team meetings to address concerns, provide updates, and foster a positive work environment.
- Monitor staff performance, provide feedback, and conduct performance reviews. Coordinate with PHS Administration, and the Director of Facilities to ensure efficient and effective building operations.
Building Operations:
- Develop and implement cleaning schedules and procedures for all areas of the school, including classrooms, offices, common areas, and outdoor spaces.
- Coordinate custodial activities around school events, summer programs, and construction projects.
- Monitor and inspect building cleanliness and safety, addressing any issues promptly.
- Conduct regular safety inspections (e.g., fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, playground equipment) and report findings.
- Manage building access, including key control and door scheduling.
- Respond to all building-related requests, emergencies, and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
- Coordinate with maintenance staff on building repairs and maintenance issues. Participate in crisis management planning and drills.
Administrative Duties:
- Track work orders, maintain equipment maintenance records, and manage custodial supplies inventory.
- Prepare and submit reports, schedules, and other necessary documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of staff attendance, leave requests, and payroll information.
- Stay informed of relevant industry best practices, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines. Participate in professional development training as required.
Sensory and Environmental Factors:
- Sensory Requirements: This position requires visual perception and discrimination, as well as effective oral communication skills, including the ability to speak and hear clearly.
- Environmental Factors:
- The work environment may include exposure to noise, moving equipment, and cleaning chemicals.
- Employees may work both indoors and outdoors.
- The position may involve working under time pressure and handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Mental Demands: This position requires sustained attention to detail, the ability to prioritize tasks, and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on available information.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Prior experience in supervisory roles within a custodial or facilities management setting.
- OSHA 10-Hour Safety Training certification; or willingness to earn.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher), Google Suite, Building Management Systems, and FMX.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 90 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach frequently.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including some weekends and holidays. Must successfully pass all required background checks and drug screenings.
